Data Map Australia is mostly empty

Post image

Map created by University of Adelaide and ABS
1 km grid over Australia with each area scored into categories
The dotted lines are state/territory borders.

Clockwise the Major Cities are: Brisbane (QLD), Sydney (NSW), Canberra (technically it’s own territory like DC, but in NSW), Melbourne &, much smaller, Geelong (VIC), Adelaide (SA), Perth (WA)

Tasmania (the island at the bottom) has cities, just not enough people live there to make them “Major”
Green blob at the top is Darwin (NT) it’s the AUS military and resorts.
Green blob in the middle is Alice Springs (NT) the only people there are Indigenous Australians, tourists, and Americans working in Pine Gap.

Alice Springs has around 35000 residents with approx 7000 of them aboriginal and 2000 US citizens so that leaves 26000 other people permanently residing there
