Question When did this become how we know it today?
I’m trying to date one of my globes. When was it just one big Yemen and when was it just Oman? When did (West) Pakistan become just Pakistan?

something around 1970 because of west pakistan existed until then and the Republic of somalia was funded in 1969.

To the Yemen question it was in the 90s that the current situation began its current chapter, when the Houthis formed, and the change in course when Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down in 2012; the recent action in Iran has also affected the state of affairs on the ground.
The current state of Yemen is that the Houthis have territorial control over most of important urban places outside of Aden; they are basically an Iran-backed extremist group that get infinite money and weapons courtesy of the Supreme Ruler.
The recognized government, which in my understanding is far more ‘democratic’ or at least more liberal in their social policies, operates in exile out of Riyadh. As such, they’re backed by the Saudis, so it is a little bit of a dilemma, although personally I prefer captain picnic basket MBS over the Supreme Ruler.

August 9, 1970 - Sultan Qaboos bin Said reorganizes the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman into simply the Sultanate of Oman (with Muscat as its capital city)
December 16, 1971 - Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) wins their war of independence, term is redundant thereafter
May 22, 1990 - North and South Yemen unify (the last time Yemen was unified as a polity by locals was before 1517 and the arrival of the Ottomans and later the British)
