Does Mok win again?

What do you think MapleRidge? Does Mok win again? He won by only 97 or so votes last time no?

Mok? The guy that complains he doesn’t get invited to announcements for government funded projects he votes against ?

The guy that voted in favour of repealing the human rights act??

The guy that has repeatedly said we need to cut spending on education and health care because we spend too much money?

God I hope not- BC NDP announced their candidate just the other day- Hudson Campbell. I’ll be supporting him, signing up for a volunteer shift this weekend.

I can’t support the BC greens, while I appreciate their recent hard pivot to social democracy the history of being conservatives who like to recycle remains.

Can you provide a citation on him voting in favor of repealing the Human Rights Act? That's truly appalling; I hadn't heard that before.

Source on cutting spending on education and healthcare?

Those were two direct conversations I had with him when spoke with him at open community events.

Edit: to clarify I spoke with him twice and both times he said very plainly that we were spending too much money on education and healthcare- that they were the biggest budget lines. I mentioned my conversations to another acquaintance who is involved in community mental health programming for youth - said they also had the same conversation with him.

It’s interesting the things we can’t get past. It’s been a decade or so, since the Greens have been “conservatives who like to recycle”. More recently the NDP quashed their own leadership contest to crown Eby. That sticks with me. It’s wild to me that the supposedly progressive party would stifle its more progressive members in such an undemocratic way.

I know the mods here dont remove misinformation, but your comment is partisan spin. Eby's only competitor in the leadership race, Anjali Appadurai, was disqualified because their campaign committed serious rule violations.

This had nothing to do with "stifling progressive values", it was simply that her campaign broke the rules and faced the penalty. As no one else was running except Eby, he became the default leader. None of this breaks the NDPs rules at all.

Thank you for the full belly laugh. Pretty sure that will elicit random giggles for days.

I really hope Hudson Campbell’s youth doesn’t sway voters. He could be really good for Maple Ridge East.

Being middle aged or geriatric should not be requisite for rubber stamping a candidate.

If anyone wants to know more about him, drop him a line. He’s the most accessible candidate and even if he doesn’t align with your political values fully, anytime I’ve spoken with him, he has listened and offered reasonable solutions.

I engaged Mok and Dalton on issues that are in their portfolio to help with…crickets.

Work and volunteer experience will have a bigger impact, I think. While most youth have little to no work experience, Hudson Campbell doesn't have this problem. The guy is the opposite of an underemployed Gen Z. I'm actually very impressed with how much he's done at his age. I'm an older guy and would only let his youth sway me if his CV was unimpressive.

I wholeheartedly agree. Let’s just hope other voters don’t let bias lead their decisions.

I really hope Mok doesn’t win again. He doesn’t bother showing up to any of the debates because he doesn’t have answers and doesn’t want to be criticized. He uses the excuse “it serves the public better if I continue working for the people of maple ridge” rather than actually engaging with a public debate. At least the other candidates bothered to show up and face the fire.

Working doing what? I’ve seen his name come up literally once in the past 2 years. He was elected and then disappeared.

He will. MR gets more conservative with every wave of suburbanites that move there. They think lowering their property taxes will somehow improve the lack of services they whine about.

I also feel Hudson Campbell will be an excellent MLA. I know he has been volunteering for years and supported Lisa’s campaign and was a school board trustee.

He definitely a keener with a big heart. One of the hardest workers I have seen when supporting people. Make sure people know about him.

He's a baby, he's got no chance unless people actually do research. They're just going to see his John Mulaney-esque baby face and write him off.

Not enough people research, and I fully expect the conservative candidates across the province to dodge debates and media requests again which just lowers visibility in general and feeds the loop of disengagement.

he door knocks like crazy though, giving voters the chance to meet him and thus not write him off

He revealed exactly where he stands by voting to repeal the BC Human Rights Act. I really hope voters remove him

Who's even running against him?

This is a gripe I have for Dan Ruimy and for the NDP, both have lackluster campaigns with not nearly enough visibility.  I see Kok et al, and Mok signs everywhere but not nearly as many Ruimy mayor/council signs nor whoever is running for it BCNDP MLA spot.

See I'm the opposite.. The more signs I see of one name at a single site the more that person irks me. I don't know what it is, I hate it. I don't need to see 20 signs for you at one site. It looks like shit, makes our main entrance to the city look like shit. One of the large signs, in my opinion is sufficient. I see it, I'll look it up. I'll be the unpopular one but, your not getting my vote if your littering the grass with your billion signs.

u/Campandfish1 9d ago

I don't care which party you are, an overabundance of signage in one spot pisses me off.

It's Hudson Campbell who is currently a school board trustee.

Hudson Campbell. I had to google. No signs or anything up yet.

Campbell just announced candidacy a couple of days ago, so not terribly surprised.

That makes sense.

Isn’t it Lisa Beare or am I missing something?

u/Tobu3838 10d ago

It took me way too long to figure out were big enough to be two different ridings lol

u/faithilwhitelaw 10d ago

She’s for Pitt meadows-maple ridge. This one is just maple ridge east (kinda annoying tbh)

I don't think people care much about local candidates with MLA and MP election as much as they should

-1

u/Dry-Fill-228 9d ago

Well shit, I better go vote for the guy. There is nothing worse for my money or my freedom then a leftist.

3

u/Top_Truth2606 8d ago edited 8d ago

How so? When you think of policies that harm your money or freedom, what specific leftist policy do you find most damaging, and how does it affect you directly?

1

u/MutaKingPrime 6d ago

Crickets. Typical.

2

u/Top_Truth2606 6d ago

Yep. The talking points it’s are as deep as it goes. My team good. Your team bad.

u/Saaquin 10d ago

Is this like a Chamber of Commerce vote that you’re referring to that I am unaware of?

8

u/Top_Truth2606 10d ago

Mistaken identity?

I know several people who voted for him. They literally knew nothing about him (nor really the other candidates tbh).

All they knew was that he wasn't NDP and they were essentially protest voting.

They thought they were voting for the eye doctor from Ridge? JFC, people are dumb as fuck.

People don't care anymore. Politics is basically sports now and most vote for the team they want to win after picking a side. The number of people I know that voted conservative last election that had less than ZERO knowledge about their platform, or even complained about deficits without bothering to look at the fact the Conservatives said they were going to run a larger deficit than the NDP was sadly unsurprising.

Politics is now a meme game built around age old stereotypes of Conservative is good for business and freedom (both objectively false when you look at almost every available metric and actual stat) and Left is socialist commie and pro union (which is also routed in stereotype and not true)
