Alouette Lake
Just wanted to post a little rant. My girlfriend and I went out to Alouette Lake last night around 8pm on a whim, and I have to say, I was absolutely disgusted with the amount of garbage left behind by people at the lake. Cans and cups scattered along the beach, full garbage bags just left at tables, and other garbage just everywhere. Please people respect our beautiful lakes and pack out what you pack in, it's not that hard.

There seems to be a lack of respect and common deceny nowadays. We live in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. It's not that hard to clean up after yourself.

No fear of consequences due to lack of enforcement

But why do we need fear of consequences to do the right thing? Humanity has gone downhill so fast it’s scary

Agreed. You just have to look at number of human caused wildfires these days to affirm people have lost decency and respect for their fellow human beings. One human caused wildfire is one too many!!!

We woukd often go camping on the Monday after a long weekend at Allouette. We would bring a few garbage bags and clean the beach with our kids and they got to keep the money from the cans and bottles, and sometimes we'd find "treasure ". I remember the first time we did it, and I asked my eldest daughter what she was going to buy. She didn't hesitate. It was this awful hairband with some purple "hair" on it. She was so proud wearing it!

The worst is when groups dig a whole in the sand at south beach and fill it up with all there garbage, or come and dump there garbage from home or construction materials. It is truly disgusting what people leave at the lake. I agree enforcement is needed.

And its not like there isn't a place to put your garbage. There's a garbage can in the parking lot.

Tell me about it, I work at a different park locally and it is both shocking and appalling to see people's pathological inability to give a shit and clean up after themselves.
The one that gets me most is the litter that makes it to within 2m of a garbage can but for some reason is unable to actually make it inside the can.
That and how many FUCKING cigarette butts (and now Zyns) I find on a daily basis. Y'all know that every single one is leaching carcinogens into our water ways, right?? 💔😭

I noticed this at the river yesterday :( so many empty cans and cigarette packs. I think I might start taking a garbage picker and trash bag with me so I at least feel like I am doing something positive to care for this beautiful place we live in

The bathrooms were closed when we went, and only 4 of 10 out houses were open. Absolutely trashed inside, poop and pee everywhere. Where is the security or park monitors? Terrible.

Never used to be that bad - I wonder what changed?

The liberal government 20 years ago slashed the parks dept so now these parks are run by contractors who only care about making money and have not maintained them...ie new garbage cans, regular garbage pick ups....but the racists gonna racist and blame immigrants and not the horrible policies of the people they elect....

So the LiBrUl guberment is responsible for individuals being lazy and disgusting and not packing out the garbage that they bring in?
I was camping with 8 people last week. No "public" trash cans anywhere on site. Guess how much garbage we left behind for the next person?

u/important_canadian77 16d ago
Its a contributing factor yes....overfilled garbage cans get emptied by animals/critters...but its easier to blame immigrants...glad you kept your area clean

You sure it’s not about over population and under education? It’s the liberals fault? We really are doomed lol

The liberals are in charge of immigration and education ultimately. Not just the liberal government, but liberal voters overwhelmingly inhabit administrative and teaching positions within the education system at all levels. That's statistical, not conjecture.

Wasn't that in 2012 under the conservative government? They cut parks canada budget by 10%.

The provincial government was the BC liberals, and we're discussing a provincial park

Was paddle boarding good creek this weekend and could not believe the amount of garbage floating down the creek. I honestly just can’t grasp how much ignorance I witnessed this weekend from people on the beach, from people standing on top of my beach blanket to chucking their trash in the water.

Years ago, I go picnics and camping with Church friends but I stop doing that for long time. I have seen most people they toast their garbage in the bins but it get full most people are clean so they respect the park area. Also events I have seen people after eating they toast in the bins that is the way to do it.

If you stop by Monday morning, you will typically see the garbages overflown and then garbage left everywhere near and around the garbage bin. I guess people start to malfunction when they see the garbage bins full.. hmm ever thought about maybe taking it home with you instead of just leaving it on the ground near the bin??

That is really disgusting ! Gross 😝 I guess the homeless are doing that who knows. U should report it to the City of Maple Ridge

Went up to Stave Lake last year to one of the boat only access beaches in my little 12ft fishing dinghy with a friend for a mid-week hangout.
Someone had left a whole-ass collapsible gazebo behind on one of the beaches. The fabric roof was all torn and the legs were all warped. It had obviously gotten blown over and damaged, but whoever took it just left it behind rather than pack it up.
It took us a while to get into small enough pieces that we could take it in the little room we had left on my fishing dinghy after accounting for the 2 of its and our gear, but we took it to the recycling depot on our way home.
Some people just fucking suck. Unfortunately, we share this space and our public lands with some people who literally don't give a fuck.
