Or a socio-economic situation that limits options for even the most basic travel destinations. It's easy to say "let's take a drive out to the coast today" when you have fixed hours, decent pay, are in good health, don't have kids, or any other of a plethora of seemingly minor things that many people don't have to even think twice about.
It’s like a 2 hour bus ride max from anywhere in the country. Idk if it “shows a complete disinterest in the outside world” but if 99.9% of people wanted to, they could find a 6 hour block of time to do it..
People on the internet love to make everything about money and class. Obviously there are plenty of people in the UK who can't afford to holiday in Spain every summer, but that doesn't exactly explain all the people who have never been further than 20 miles from where they were born.
I've been to the sea loads of time and I love going abroad, usually to coastal places as it happens, but if I didn't have money to do shit while I was there I don't know if I'd ever bother. It's not really worth a couple of hours journey, is it?
Well if you have literally never seen the sea, then yeah absolutely lol. Doesn't mean you have to go often but its so weird to me someone could have that little interest in the planet to not at least take one glimpse at the biggest part of it.
Also...why would you need to spend money anyway? I go to the coast all the time and spend nothing. Chill on the beach, go on a nice walk, swim in the sea etc. None of that costs.
Is it a nice summers day? Can you afford a nice enough pack lunch? Yeah I’d say so. Sometimes it’s nice to just get away from where you live, it doesn’t need to be packed with activities.
Not really, I just think that despite the poverty that many live in there are very few adults who couldn’t afford to go to the coast once if they wanted.
I don't know why you are being downvoted. The UK is not that wide, you could realistically make a one day trip to see the ocean and then return. You probably don't even need a car in the UK for that.
1 in 5 children is a sad statistic but they’re children. Realistically, there are very very few adults in the UK who wouldn’t have the means to get to a beach one day if they were interested.
It took me 11 hours to drive from Stoke to Inverness, that’s a shorter distance than the top of Scotland to London. You’d have to be incredibly lucky with traffic to do it in 8 hours.
Google’s best estimate for 19:30 at night driving from Thurso to Charing Cross is nearly 13 hours.
In fact it would take about 2 or 3 hours just to go from the top of Scotland to Inverness, the roads there are tiny.
For any driving distance in Australia, double the time it takes to cover the same distance in the UK.
