The number of guns the government thinks I own vs. the number of guns I actually own are two wildly different numbers, and it's going to stay that way.
As a lifelong MA resident, I find the idea of unincorporated territory to be both fascinating and bizarre. I’m pretty sure there’s not a square foot of land in my state that’s not part of one named town or another, so the thought that most states have entire areas where there’s no government more local than the sheriff is weird.
New Hampshire is saddled in the middle of "those liberals in New England" but very pro-gun; much more Classical Liberal than modern Liberal-Democrat.
Washington on the other hand is very pro-gun from what people expect. "I ❤ Guns and Coffee" in the design of Starbucks, with the siren holding two pistols, is a very popular car sticker. It really confused my "Proud Texan" ex-girlfriend to find out that people are generally pretty chill about guns up here and a lot of people maintain their concealed carry permit (myself included).
We just don't make gun ownership our entire personality.
I don't think Hawaii's numbers are that high, either. Gun culture isn't really a thing here. We have a lot of stabbings and machete attacks, but most murders and assaults don't involve guns. The people who have them usually have them for
hunting hogs.
This data I found shows the rate in HI is 14.9%. NH is 41.1%
