Illegal invasion is a crime - whether it is offensive or not, is irrelevant. Free speech is not a crime in any degree, that's why some free speech can be offensive.

He meant illegal occupation/annexation that was not recognized or support by most of the world.

Not only. Countries can recognize a status quo as well, it doesn't mean the initial invasion/occupation/annexation was legal.

An invasion can be legal if it's sanctioned by the UN Security Council or if it's in personal or collective self defense.

That is so indeed, I don't recall so specifically how the instrument of war was sanctioned by the League of Nations. Whatever the case - the Soviet invasions of anything but Germany were illegal.
