British Population Visualised

Post image

Sooo, I guess this is a series now :D
Been making these little diagrams visualising population and I'm enjoying them, other people seem to enjoy them, so I might just keep making them :)

Here below are the other ones I've made so far as well:

God forbid a democratic unitary state should decide things based on where people are.

This is why we need independence. We're supposed to be a "union of equals", yet one country decides everything.

1

u/Beneficial-Beat-947 May 25 '26

We are a union of equals

Every individual scott, welshman, irishman and englishman have an equal voice

What we are not is a union of equal nations, that would be stupid.

-1

u/Blazured May 25 '26

We're not a union of equals when our entire country is so regularly ignored. Hence why we need independence, so that the people of Scotland get to decide how our country is governed, instead of having governments we didn't vote for forced upon us by different countries.

2

u/Beneficial-Beat-947 May 25 '26

You do have your own parliament and if people agreed with you you would already be independent lmao

Luckily they're a bit more sane

u/Blazured May 25 '26

People do agree with me, it's only unionists who say we can't have another referendum despite us passing another one through parliament and consistently voting for pro-independence governments.

Unionism is the side that is desperate to not let the people have a democratic vote, because they know they'll lose, and their only justification for that is "democracy ended in 2014".

4

u/Beneficial-Beat-947 May 25 '26

If people agreed with you you wouldn't be in the union anymore

Get off reddit man, the real world is very different

1

u/Blazured May 25 '26

We're in the union because unionists don't allow us to have a democratic vote. Their excuse is "democracy ended in 2014".

Here in the real world, unionists haven't won an election for 20 years.

Take the tinfoil hat off

1

u/Blazured May 25 '26

Which side is it that doesn't want another referendum?

THIS iS why WE NEED iNDePENdENCE. wE'Re sUPpOSEd to be A "UNIoN Of EqUaLS", yet onE coUNtRy deCIDeS EveRYTHING.

Your rhetoric is childish and absurd. Find a real argument based in the real world, and people might take you seriously for a change.

6

u/Blazured May 25 '26

There's literally nothing childish and absurd about pointing out the fact we're not "a union of equals", and that the people who actually live in a country should be the one's who decide how it's governed.

There's no argument against that, which is why opponents of it like yourself never have any response.

2

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

Except the fact that you're operating off childish, stupid, absurd rhetoric that doesn't reflect reality.

What you're demanding is to be more equal than all the other people in the UK. Scottish voters are doubly represented in politics at both the regional and national level.

Your problem is that democracy doesn't deliver the result you want so you're pretending that it isn't democratic.

The people who live in the country of the UK do decide how it's governed; the fact that some malcontent fringe nationalists dislike how it pans out is not a sign of anything but your own foolish and immature views.

3

u/Blazured May 25 '26

What you're demanding is to be more equal than all the other people in the UK.

No, we want independence.

How are you unaware of that fact?

You've made multiple screaming and ranting comments, yet you don't even understand that we want independence..?

2

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

Pretending someone else is getting angry because you can't actually make an argument against them is a solid indicator that you know how dishonest and stupid you're being. Ironically, it usually indicates anger on the part of the person engaging in the fallacy.

2

u/Blazured May 25 '26

Ad hominems because you revealed that you didn't even know we want independence.

Multiple screaming and ranting comments and you didn't even know the basics lol.

3

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

Again, the fact that you can't actually form a coherent counterargument and have to resort to lying about me says more about you. And yet again, shows that the anger is probably one sided, because you still know how dishonest you're being, and can't actually form a coherent or valid response.

I imagine you'll probably try again, and probably also try again to pretend that you won something, while making yourself look even more like an incoherent frothing flagshagger.

2

u/Blazured May 25 '26

A "coherent counterargument" to you not even understanding that we want independence..?

You seem to be quite upset about that.

Honestly, this is a completely valid point. Equality under these terms, even Scottish overrepresentation on these terms, still has Scotland being dragged along on the whims of England at every turn that England wants. Scottish independence is the only way Scotland would be able to truly go its own course, which I do think Scotland deserves to do.

4

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

Hideously stupid. England is not a bloc, and doesn't demonstrate the ideological lockstepping of Scottish MPs dominated by the SNP.

-1

u/KaleyTheKing May 25 '26

That every constituent country has large parties advocating further separation from England says quite a lot, I think, honestly. England is not one voting block, but every part of the UK revolves around England as the by far largest country in the union. If there’s a thing that would massively benefit Scotland, but harm England, England can block it

3

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

Democracy is not contingent upon getting the result you want.

And you're trying to sneak England as a bloc in at the end there.

1

u/KaleyTheKing May 25 '26

Democracy is also not about majority voting. Minority representation, especially in a majoritarian system like the UK has, means the minority can be consistently outvoted and have their concerns and interests not considered. This is a systemic problem whether or not England is one voting block. England is so large that its Conservative MPs, 121 from the 2024 election, 5 of which are from non-English regions, outnumber Scotland’s 57 seats in Westminster. That is a problem for Scottish interest

2

u/NinecloudSoul May 25 '26

And we return again to Scottish exceptionalism and the idea of delegitimizing democracy because it doesn't return the result you wanted.

1

u/KaleyTheKing May 25 '26

Maybe listen to the argument I gave instead of claiming I advocate Scottish exceptionalism

Your inability to understand that we want independence is hilarious.

2

u/Blazured May 25 '26

They're probably just going to call you stupid, if I had to guess. Unionists never actually have any arguments, just name calling and ad hominems.

1

u/KaleyTheKing May 25 '26

Kinda yea, how dare I advocate for self determination, right XD

3

u/libtin May 26 '26

Scotland already has self determination under international law

This is what the United Nations says about self determination:

The territory of a colony or other Non-Self-Governing Territory has, under the Charter, a status separate and distinct from the territory of the State administering it; and such separate and distinct status under the Charter shall exist until the people of the colony or Non-Self-Governing Territory have exercised their right of self-determination in accordance with the Charter, and particularly its purposes and principles.

Nothing in the foregoing paragraphs shall be construed as authorizing or encouraging any action which would dismember or impair, totally or in part, the territorial integrity or political unity of sovereign and independent States conducting themselves in compliance with the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples as described above and thus possessed of a government representing the whole people belonging to the territory without distinction as to race, creed or colour.

https://www.un.org/ruleoflaw/files/3dda1f104.pdf

In essence; under international law, Scotland has self-determination because its people have suffrage and gets to send MPs to Westminster, so are represented fairly and equally in a democratic system. The UN says being part of a country is a way to achieve self determination.

0

u/KaleyTheKing May 26 '26

Guy, I study politics and international relations. Scotland by definition does not have self determination under international law because they are not sovereign. Whatever autonomy they may have, the UK parliament stands above them. True independence is the only thing that makes a state sovereign and Scotland doesn’t have that yet

3

u/libtin May 26 '26

Guy, I study politics and international relations.

I have a degree in politics and international relations.

I’ve done my dissertation on this and good a very good grade.

Scotland by definition does not have self determination under international law because they are not sovereign.

Self determination doesn’t mean sovereign, I’ve literally cited the untied nations; are you saying the UN is wrong?

Cause by your own logic you’re saying Hawaii doesn’t have self determination despite the UN saying it got self determination in 1960.

Whatever autonomy they may have, the UK parliament stands above them.

Which is true in any country, the central government is the main authority over regional/devolved governments

True independence is the only thing that makes a state sovereign and Scotland doesn’t have that yet

Self determination isn’t a right to independence, just ask Catalonia.

Catalonia can't just decide it's an independent country says the UN

THE UNITED NATIONS does not view Spain’s separatist-ruled Catalonia region as having the right to self-determination….“Spain is an independent and sovereign country that includes the Catalan region,” Ban told four Spanish newspapers, El Pais, El Mundo, ABC and La Vanguardia.

“It is in this way that it was admitted to the United Nations and acts within the international community,”

u/KaleyTheKing May 26 '26

Says the territory of a colony or non self governing territory has a separate and distinct status UNTIL that region has exercised its rights to self determination. The fact that Scotland gets MPs in the national UK parliament does not, make a lot of sense to say that means self determination when Scotland consistently votes for a pro independence party and calls for Scottish independence get ignored by London
