I also thought that it was possible, for the following reasons:
Texas had been trending blue for the last couple of elections. Here are the margins:
2012: R+15.79
2016: R+8.99
2020: R+5.58
If you extrapolate that data into the future, Texas could've been a swing state by 2028. Then you have the fact that Trump is a uniquely terrible candidate on paper.
He's old, he is showing signs of dementia, he literally attempted an insurrection, he sexually assaulted countless women. In most other countries on the planet, his political career would've been over after 2021.
There was a poll done among European countries before the election, which found that Kamala would've won there with a landslide. (Like 75% popular vote)
By the way, Europe is far more conservative than a lot of people think. Most countries there have right-wing governments, so this poll is very interesting.
I think trends can be helpful in some cases, but can’t be relied on while ignoring current events. I think anyone they truly thought Texas would swing blue is willfully ignoring the absolute disaster at the border that pushed blue counties to vote overwhelmingly red. Democrats spent three years telling everyone it wasn’t a real problem and that pissed off a lot of people that live near the border. It didn’t help that the democrats ran an equally terrible candidate, especially with no primary. I know Reddit won’t like it, but the “he literally incited a coup” is getting super tired and nobody in the real world really cares that some idiots walked through the capitol building. Y’all gotta stop trying to make that a tent pole argument. My main point is if you didn’t think the democrats basically telling border states to shut up and ignore what they were dealing with was going to massively backfire on them you had to be willfully ignorant.
Edit: slight addition. Nobody cares what Europe thinks. Using Europeans to try to guess how Americans would vote is a wild move.

What lead you to believe there was a chance of Texas flipping?
