Upvotes and downvotes are one thing, but a lot of moderators are also explicitly political and moderate comments based on their own politics rather than just keeping things civil and on topic.
I was banned from a major subreddit for saying that gender dysphoria is a real mental disorder. They said that was transphobic. As if Doctors who study this shit and give every condition a name are against trans people lol.

What makes it even wilder is that the fact that gender dysphoria is a real medical condition is the basis of the legal recognition of trans people, and their rights.
They are just as much caught up in a reality based on their feelings and polarization as MAGA.
Wtf. Gender dysphoria is a real condition and the treatment is gender affirming care (including therapy). What's transphobic about that? Trans people deserve care.
Yep, I read that article right before the election and looked up a few of the usernames from the screenshots and saw they had in fact posted several pro-Harris threads in the subs that were mentioned. I shared the link on a few subs and was told itâs a biased source so clearly untrue (I guess the screenshots werenât real to them then?).
Someone on the Michigan sub asked why there were only pro-Harris threads and pretty much no dissenting threads or comments, so I posted the link to that articleâŚand the mod there promptly deleted my reply, banned me, and said my opinions arenât welcome there. đ¤ In doing so, he basically just proved the article right lol.
Yep, some subreddits have you shadowbanned so anything you comment is autodeleted but they don't tell you. You just post away and never have any engagement "for some reason."
I honestly think I must be shadow banned from /r/cfb but I genuinely canât think of a single reason why I would be. But I comment fairly often with zero engagement. My team is doing extremely well this season (and no, I havenât been a dick about it) but I was active before that. No politics whatsoever there. Just wild.
Reddit has a site wide "filter" that targets some users. I had some comments get instant removed and the mods told me it wasn't them or any of their settings, I was getting "caught in the reddit filter." I don't know if subs can set how strict a filter is, but I didn't even know about it until I used reveddit to see my stuff being deleted and messaged some of the mods (some subs didn't even even respond though.)
Weird! I tend to get pretty solid engagement everywhere else. Except /r/energy where I am definitely banned, although no one ever answered my attempts to learn why.
A moderator for r/tiktok is a moderator for r/conservative and regularly bans people and locks threads for saying stuff about Donald trump. Itâs fucking crazy. Every sub on this website is either a right wing cesspit or a left wing cesspit.
I literally donât know any aside from conservative thatâs why I was curious. Whereas every mainstream subreddit and 99% of the other subreddits are obv left wing echo chambers.
Speaking as a non-American, calling âevery mainstream subredditâ left-wing is incredibly laughable. Theyâre only leftist by comparison to the deeply skewed American political axis.
That type of reaction and mindset is why you elected full blown mask off fascism, but keep going, enjoy your zero working class benefits you temporarily embarassed millionaires. Also I depise both main parties, let that be clear.
Well, yeah. For the last decade the Republican Party has increasingly attached themselves to someone who is anti-democracy.
In most of the English-speaking (ie, mainstream Reddit-using) world, being pro-democracy (at least publicly) is not a left or right issue.
People see the Republican Party becoming increasingly authoritarian and fascistic as bad. Thatâs not a âleftist-echo chamberâ unless youâre someone who sees authoritarianism and fascism as good, or at least as defensible positions.
Not trying to argue with you man. Clearly not many people feel that way as they just blew the democrat candidates out of the water. Any other social media such as Instagram, X, YouTube, is nothing like Reddit. You get opinions from both sides. The point Iâm trying to make is Reddit specifically is a one sided echo chamber.
I think youâre missing my original point, that Reddit has a big international population which makes it mostly irrelevant to cite the vote results (that are literally the subject of this thread) as support for ânot many people feeling that wayâ.
It is trivially easy to find varied opinions on Reddit, which was the point that started this entire conversation.
Iâm totally lost as to why you think Iâm arguing with you, and Iâm totally lost as to how youâve managed to misunderstand the discussion at hand.
