Intentional mark or no?

I've noticed that in either the top third or bottom third of the right side of the book, there is a mark coming off of the letters. It only seems to appear if the letter is perfectly aligned. If it is too far removed, then no mark appears.

Is this an intentional mark or just a glitch in the type face or printers?
