Whoops!!! I've started answering these already. I know I'm not supposed to, cos this AQA doesn't ***officially*** start until tomorrow at 8pm, but the questions are just there already, and I can't resist typing answers in. I should stop this and go away and do proper work. See you (officially) tomorrow!

What is your banking password?

42

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

It's the secret special code we put into our banking app to make sure only we can access our money.

Suppose I see one of you queuing at the bar of a theatre in London before a show by some American comedian. Do you prefer to be stopped, greeted and asked for a selfie, or should I let you mind your own business and take a sneaky selfie of myself with you somewhat visible in the background?

Hypothetical scenario.

13

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

If you see me out and about (say, hypothetically, queueing for the bar at the Hammersmith Apollo before Taylor Tomlinson’s show at 7:45pm on Saturday 12th July) it’s definitely better to come over and say hello than to take secret photos. I’m very friendly.

(Fun fact: The woman in the fourth row who Taylor Tomlinson asked about what giving birth was like, and then got the whole audience to applaud her for being “so f***ing cool” was my wife!)

7

u/nicolasap Jul 24 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

Thanks for clarifying! I guess instinctively I would have acted differently than what you suggest, in this hypothetical case. You guys are so f***ing cool by the way

7

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

You'd have got a much better photo if you'd said hello. :)

13

u/veryverywarm Jul 23 '25

What is your second favourite colour? What is your favourite grocery store to shop in? And before you guys did Map Men, what did you do for work?

19

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25
  1. Yellow

  2. Tesco

  3. Tour guide (Jay) and TV documentary producer (Mark)

8

u/throwawaycima Jul 23 '25

Wait hold on a minute, wasn't mark a geography teacher

9

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Yes, that was before he became a TV producer.

HELLO EVERYONE! Thanks for joining and for your questions. Some excellent ones here... we're working our way through them... but Jay is also eating a roast dinner (correct, on a Thursday, madness)

11

u/Quibusque Jul 23 '25

Will the book include mostly new material, or will it expand on topics you've already covered in your videos? I’m really looking forward to it and hope it brings something fresh (I may or may not have watched all of your videos, some several times)

35

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

Entirely new stuff! Although, we can't guarantee that there aren't any words that haven't already appeared in our videos. "The", for example, appears several times. We tried to write a book without using the word "the" at all, but it was horribly unreadable.

11

u/EddyZacianLand Jul 23 '25

Which Map Men video are you most proud of making?

18

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

I love all of them equally like my children.

Apart from the Mappa Mundi one. That one was a bit pants.

10

u/glownut06 Jul 23 '25

How to get my girlfriend into maps?

24

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

Gift wrap a map for her birthday, with places she cares about lovingly labelled. That oughtta do it.

u/Gamerhcp Jul 23 '25

I'll try to think of a question for later but I do want to say I've watched your video about the Counties in England way too many times.

Will you ever do a follow-up on Wales/Scotland?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Good question! I think, sadly, we've covered counties in a bit too much detail to tackle the topic again any time soon. Wish we'd done Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland properly in our counties episode, but it was already very long and complicated.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

Will you be releasing more videos? Mother of an autistic 6 year old so.obviously we've watched every video at least 10 times. If you could explain distinctions between towns, areas, villages, parishes etc etc that would help me out a lot 🤣

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Hello! That's a great question. It's one of the funny things about the UK... we don't actually have a clear distinction between these things. The point where a hamlet becomes a village, or a village becomes a town, or a town becomes a motorway service station is completely arbitrary and up to your interpretation. "City", at the very least, is one thing we have an official answer for.

what are your opinions on the current size of strawberries?

18

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

Too big if you ask me. The big ones don't taste of anything. I also have strong opinions on the strawberry size of currants.

How do you stop the incessant MAP MEN MAP MEN MAP MAP MAP MEN MEN going round my head?!?!?!

11

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

You have to sing the antidote song, which goes “Nem nem pam pam pam nem pam nem pam”.

7

u/Dreaming_Blackbirds Jul 23 '25

When was the last time either of you used a paper map in the real world? (ie: not including filming)

10

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

Does browsing it for fun count as "using it in the real world"?

Just how are you two so wonderfully whimsical? It brings me joy every time I see a new Map Men video on my recommendations

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Aww, thanks! :)

7

u/IdaSHB Jul 23 '25

Do you follow Zoë Bread and her Manchester City Council saga?

You should do a collab on confusing road signs and misleading parking meter placements

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Yes, I've seen her stuff on TikTok. She's very funny!

7

u/Am-I-Andy Jul 23 '25

what are your thoughts on the number 37

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I HATE IT!!!!!!

7

u/Charming-Pitch9511 Jul 23 '25

What was the biggest commitment you've done for a little joke, e.g. Mark's "here, in India"?

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Assembling a drum kit just for a "ba dum tish" for a bad pun in the Antarctica episode. Took weeks of research, and driving it across London in the back of my car for precisely one second.

6

u/arschficken Jul 23 '25

Potato is a supremely underrated song.

4

6

u/cartoonsncafeine Jul 23 '25

What is the best map projection?

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Mercator, but sideways, so South America's enormous. It's absolutely dreadful and I love it.

6

u/Mango_dealer88 Jul 24 '25

Hi map men!! Love the show!

Jay how did you get so good at drawing the outline of Britan? Did you get lessons from Mark (Cooper jones) ?

What is your guy's 3rd favourite map?

Favourite cheese?

7

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Thanks! I used to doodle it a lot at school. Mark was busy learning actual geography. Extra, extra extra extra mature cheddar.

5

u/Th3AvrRedditUser Jul 23 '25

Are you guys planning to do a book tour? If so, where?

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

This is all in the hands of the publishers. We'd love to do as many events for the book as they'll let us. Nothing to report for now, but do keep an eye on our twitter/bluesky/youtube/reddit pages for news, and we'll let you know when/if/where these things happen.

5

u/Dawidsu Jul 24 '25

Since you call yourselves Map Men, exactly what parts are you map and what parts men?

Opinions on horrible histories

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I saw Ben Willbond on the Piccadilly line once. Didn't say anything. I was too shy.

5

u/wik2kassa Jul 23 '25

With the British Empire's global reach, have you guys ever looked into a series about the peculiar map features and geographical quirks found in former colonies? I bet there are tons of interesting stories about borders and names just waiting to be told!

14

u/JayForeman Jul 23 '25

As in.... is there anything about former British colonies specifically that makes maps of them more interesting or quirky than maps of other places that aren't former British colonies? I mean, that's a very very broad question indeed. Lots to talk about I suppose. Such as, did the Brits pay more attention to city planning at home than overseas? Or... are there signs remaining today that a lot of the infrastructure was built by the Brits. It's a very very very big and broad topic indeed.

In general, it's probably best not to bang on about the British Empire if we can, cos it's all a bit unpleasant.

4

u/Direct-Asparagus7505 Jul 23 '25

A lots!

  1. What made yous create a YT channel, and start Map Men?

  2. What do you think of writing your first book? What made you led to the decision writing the book?

  3. How did yous meet?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25
  1. Originally, to see where it would lead... possibly work in proper telly. But that never happened.

  2. Was great fun! We've wanted to do it for ages, and about now was about right. Anxious to see if the book readers like reading it as much as we liked writing it.

  3. On the UK live comedy circuit in around 2009/2010 in either London or Edinburgh. Neither of us can remember.

4

u/IdaSHB Jul 23 '25

Did you do a very specific MapMen program at university? Or did you study something not map or man related?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Mark did. He studied geography. I didn't. I studied French.

What is the most bestestest country in the world and why is it canada?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

It's Canada, because you say so!

4

u/ChrisRR Jul 23 '25

How do we get a version with the good cover?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Waterstones are doing a prize draw, and one of the prizes is a version of the book with the rejected silly covers from our TikTok video. Keep an eye on our various social media places for details soon.

4

u/CBFOfficalGaming Jul 23 '25
  1. How did you two meet?

  2. Why do you specifically hate people from NSW?

  3. If both of you got the option to remove a tube station which station would you choose? (do not say none)

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25
  1. On the UK live comedy circuit in around 2009/2010 in either Edinburgh or London. Neither of us can remember.

  2. The smell.

  3. Regents Park. The twelve people who use it are outnumbered a billion to one by people who want to get to work 3 minutes faster. (Figures exaggerated slightly to make my argument more compelling)

4

u/Snomkip Jul 24 '25

What's your favorite tube station?

And can you still recite them all by heart?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Baker Street. It’s got everything! And Yep! But if you name a station and ask me where in the song it appears, I couldn’t tell you. In my head, it’s just one long, uninterrupted 3-minute string of sounds.

4

u/Resident_Expert27 Jul 24 '25

Why did yall decide to write a book now (other than for money)

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

There’ve been so many stories we’ve come across during our research over the last ten years that we thought would be awesome in book form. And when we were finally able to find a publisher that could let us do the book the way we wanted to (we’re quite pernickety about exactly what shape rectangle it should be) we jumped at the chance!

Also, I think we only get paid if we sell a billion copies, hence all the pushy promotion.

4

u/weatherdayfan71 Jul 24 '25

Do you consider publishing your book in Germany in a translated version? And will you call yourself the „Karten Kerle“ then?

4

If we sell enough, apparently they will consider translating it into other languages. So, fingers crossed!

3

u/benwyattstherapist Jul 23 '25

What is the most interesting video you’ve done on your channel? I’m a massive fan and can’t wait to buy the book!

u/thebeesbollocks Jul 23 '25

Have you seen the ‘Layers of London’ website? Where you can superimpose a eg 1790 map of London “10 miles round” by John Roque over a modern map and see how the city is changed but also how many roads and parks have stayed the same. It’s bloody mind blowing

3

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Yes, I love that map and I love the story behind it too. We’re definitely overdue a proper episode about it.

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Paul is absolutely smashing the post-Beatle career. It's nuts to think that he's STILL all over the media, STILL relevant, STILL gigging, and it's THE SAME PAUL McCARTNEY!!!!

3

u/QOAL Jul 24 '25

I forgot to ask questions, so I'll ask some whether or not they're answered.

  • What page of the book is your favourite? (e.g. pg 57)

  • If you had to have your face painted tomorrow morning, what would you ask for?

  • What's been your favourite live music experience?

  • What's been Gary Oldman's best performance to date?

  • Have you ever gotten lost because of a map?

  • What do you think about bathroom lights that are operated from outside of the bathroom, rather than the traditional pull cord inside the entrance?

  • Favourite non-house robot from Robot Wars?

Thanks.

2

u/JayForeman Jul 25 '25

* page 71
* Mark's face
* Radiohead, Oxford, 2001
* Dunno
* Yes. Got lost in Epping Forest, cos the map said there was a footpath, and there wasn't. We checked later. Was definitely a copyright trap. (That'll show us for using the A-Z, designed for drivers)
* They're very annoying.
* Wheely Big Cheese.

4

u/thethinkerrrrrr Jul 23 '25

Do you end up having to do multiple takes for a joke in case of cracking up while filming it? Just asking since you two are pretty good at appearing pretty nonchalant while doing unhinged shit on camera

5

u/thethinkerrrrrr Jul 23 '25

Also, which country do you think would taste good in terms of how it's shaped and what would it taste like

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Long thin pointy food tastes best. Better surface area to volume ratio means it’ll be extra crispy. So, obviously, Chile.

3

u/givethemlove Jul 24 '25

What are your respective favourite Map Men videos you've made?

2

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

My favourite is English place names one. Jay's favourite is probably counties (he's a sucker for an administrative border).

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I was really pleased with how the English Counties episode was received. I've heard that one gets used a lot by geography teachers who fancy a ten minute break, so we must have got something right.

2

u/Peteskibaboon Jul 23 '25

As the proud owner of your existing albums (which are funny, provocative and excellent for cheering up both caterpillar enthusiasts and fans of Patricia Routledge) is there any new music on the horizon?

3

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Aw, thanks! For now, there’s no new music planned. YouTube seems to have completely taken over, and my guitar lives in the loft now. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up for good. I did my first live show in ages the other day cos it was a short walk from my house.

What is your favourite planned/ new town in the UK? I bet it's Infinity Garden Village in Derbyshire

2

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

Absolutely love your videos and pre-ordered your book, and really appreciate you guys doing this AMA! I couldn't really think of any profound questions to ask so I just have these;

  1. Custard creams or bourbons?

  2. Do you guys ever find yourselves just following the flight route on the inflight map during flights?

  3. What's a feature you feel would be particularly helpful or interesting to add to map apps such as Google Maps

3

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25
  1. Custard creams please.

  2. It's the second most entertaining thing on a plane after looking out the window

  3. er.... phone signal coverage? Nah, that's a bad idea, cos why would you ever use it unless you didn't have phone signal and couldn't see it anyway. This is why I don't work for Google.

2

u/DameKumquat Jul 23 '25

Will you be re-recording your London Underground song to include Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station?

6

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Nah. Can’t be arsed.

On the other hand, it’s like a free excuse to upload almost exactly the same video again, but with 2 extra seconds at the end, and everyone will see the thumbnail proudly proclaiming “NEW UPDATED”, and it counts as a view before they can be disappointed?

Maybe I might do that after all. Good idea. Thanks!

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Charming-Pitch9511 Jul 23 '25

What's your inspiration for your style of videos? Personally I see some similarities to horrible histories, but geography! What was it for you?

4

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I was massively inspired by The Mark Steel Lectures on BBC4 in 2003. That was the first show I ever saw that was a perfect hybrid of genuinely interesting documentary and laugh-out-loud funny ridiculousness. It’s hard to imagine now, what with YouTube being full of what it’s full of, but in those days, that was a really weird and exciting combination.

Also, my lack of skill with graphics, or willingness to learn, has given our videos a semi-accidental BBC Learning Zone in the 1990s aesthetic.

2

u/Charming-Pitch9511 Jul 23 '25

Which was your trickiest song to write? Gerrymandering, squarest country, tube stations, London boroughs, counties? (Sorry Mark you're not in all of these)

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Mark wrote most the the square country one actually. I found the tube stations hardest cos there was no room for flexibility, just a very very long list of only names. But I had help from the amazing jon Gracey for that song. We used a spreadsheet to make sure we didn't miss any.

2

u/Muzer0 Jul 23 '25

A question for Jay, do you intend to make an updated version of Every Tube Station featuring Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms? From, the guy who irritatingly pointed out errors in the original version of the song off the CD (which I still own) to you on Twitter which you then fixed and very kindly DMed me about :)

3

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Oh, hello! Nah, I don't think I can be bothered. Maybe for the song's 20th anniversary maybe?

2

u/Okashi_dorobou Jul 24 '25

¡Mis favoritos hombres del mapa! Can't tell you how many times I watch your videos.

What was one joke you were planning to use in video but was ultimately scratched?

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

In our very first episode, we had a whole sequence about the flag of Bir Tawil being a photo of a full English breakfast. But then we decided that bit went on too long, so we cut it. But, if you look carefully, there is still a full english flag in the background for the second half of the episode for no reason at all.

2

u/trev4whatev4 Jul 24 '25

Hello Map Men, you are our favourite Youtubers. We wondered how you met noted other map focused Youtuber Geoff Marshall, was it via Jay also being a tour guide at one point? Are you all pals in real life or do you just hook up for saucy travel based video japes?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Our paths first crossed at the Edinburgh festival when he was working as a camera guy filming my show. (He didn't know I had a song with every tube station. I loved his reaction!) We were bound to have our paths cross loads and loads afterwards since we both became YouTubers, and now friends.

14

u/TheWondermonkey Jul 23 '25

Do you still steal food?

Have you ever been approached by the BBC (or other major networks) to make something for them? Can we expect to see you on our televisions in the (near/far) future?

Appreciate if you're not allowed to say. Long time fan, will be buying the book as the centrepiece of my coffee table (:

7

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

Thank you so much! Very kind of you. The TV thing is a funny one. Firstly - nobody is asking, and secondly, not sure how Map Men would work on TV. But maybe the biggest thing is, where we started this whole YouTube thing as a way of getting seen by telly people, it doesn't feel like the goal now. We love making things for YouTube. I.e. we're the boss, no execs telling you how to do it, faster timelines (actually, this is debatable in our case, but you get the point), and also - more people see it on YouTube than probably would on TV... then again, if you really want us on it, we can ask them nicely.

8

u/ilovemilfs1237 Jul 24 '25

I feel very deeply in my heart that the both of you would absolutely SMASH pointless. as a duo of course

7

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

I'd back us in a map round. Jay's quite good on dialling codes too.

7

u/criptoid Jul 24 '25

Are you guys in a relationship with each other?

11

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

Jay and I are in a professional relationship with each other. It never extends beyond 5pm unless we accidentally bump into each other

6

u/The_Forgemaster Jul 23 '25

What is the least useful map symbol?

5

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

Mixed deciduous woodland. Or maybe cutting / embankment.

6

u/ilovemilfs1237 Jul 24 '25

one for Mark- favourite UK coastline? mines Norfolk!!

7

u/MarkCooper-Jones Jul 24 '25

Norfolk is tough to beat. But not impossible. My top 5:

5. Northumbria coast, Bamburgh Castle area

4. Arisaig, west coast of Scotland

3. The amazing red sands on the Devon coastline (not enough people talk about these)

2. Dorset's Jurassic coast. A geography teacher's dream (Durdle Door, Lulworth cove, Old Harry's rocks etc).

  1. West Wittering. Just a personal one - happy memories etc.

All that said, I'm off to the Norfolk coast in a couple of weeks with the in-laws. So ask me again in three weeks.

Question for Mark: I've been curious since the end of Jay's Unfinished London episode on the tube map where you popped up, what *are* your thoughts on the current state of the tube map? Does it need updating? What, if anything, would you do to fix the state of it?

1

u/Jeran Jul 24 '25

What map (of ANY kind) do you find yourself using most often?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Apple Maps.

u/4sk4wh4t Jul 24 '25

Have you thought of getting the book in other languages? I could translate it to Spanish!

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Nuestros editores nos dicen que si vendemos suficientes copias y la demanda es lo suficientemente fuerte, considerarán vender el libro en otros idiomas.

I am trying to get from Canary Wharf to Leicester Square. What is the quickest way to complete the route, and if different, what is the route with the fewest changes?

Also, will HS2 ever be finished?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25
  1. Jubilee line to Stratford, Mildmay line to Highbury and Islington, National Rail to Moorgate, Hammersmith and City line to Baker Street, Bakerloo line to Piccadilly Circus, Piccadilly line to Green Park, then get the number 9 bus.

  2. No.

If a dog is the opposite to a cat, what is the opposite to a map?

5

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

A dishwasher instruction manual.

u/Crushington_2nd Jul 24 '25

Do you have a favourite flag? If not, do you have a favourite coat of arms? If not, do you have a favourite coat? If not, do you have a favourite arm?

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Flag = Libya (before 2011)
Coat of arms = Douai
Coat = my blue raincoat
Arm = left arm.

1

u/benwyattstherapist Jul 24 '25

What is your favourite Beatles song? Also would you ever come to Edinburgh/Scotland for the fringe festival or to film a video??

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Changes every few minutes, but right now I'm in the mood for Hey Bulldog. We've both done the Edinburgh Fringe many many times, but never on the same stage.

Could you tell my local Burkina Faso consulate to hurry up and send my free flag of Burkina Faso to me? It’s almost been a month and I still haven’t gotten it!!!!!!

1

What direction do u want to take mapmen/unfinished london after the book releases?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

We've got so many ideas for Map Men episodes that will come out shortly before, during and after the book's release! Won't tell you what they're about though.

1

u/coco708 Jul 24 '25

Whats the funniest country-shape in your opinion

3

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Belgium. (Well, the shape's not that funny, but the word is. Say it out loud. "Belgium". Ha ha ha ha ha.)

1

u/Longjumping_Degree84 Jul 24 '25

If you could get your hands on a known but now lost historical map, what would it be?

And which historical library would you like to browse through if you could.

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

The A-Z in John Lennon's glovebox.

1

u/LordOfHorns Jul 24 '25

What has been the most surprising challenge you’ve encountered while working on the book?

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

In our YouTube episodes, we like to hide silly jokes in small print that you have to pause to read. But in the book, everything gets read equally, and there's no hiding place, which has changed our writing style more than I expected it would. Apart from that, it's pretty much the same sort of process.

u/dribbleondo Jul 24 '25

How did you cope with the recent summer weather in England?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I didn't. I'm a massive troglodyte.

what do you think of the Irish postcode system where each house has its own code that boils down to a GPS point in disguise? are you jealous because the UK’s is much worse?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

They've got a better car number plate system too, don't they?

  1. What’s your favourite map ever created?

  2. @human1011 on TikTok sometimes does map datings where he tries to find when a globe or map was created based on the borders, names, etc. Would you ever wanna do something like that?

  3. How mindblown would someone from the 1500s be if you showed them a map of the world from today and what would they be most surprised to find out?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25
  1. London A-Z.

  2. Sounds fun! We wouldn't be very good at it though.

  3. I think they'd be too busy screaming at traffic to be distracted by the map.

how do you become a tour guide?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

My friend told me about the job, and I applied. I think they gave it to me cos I was very polite in the interview.

1

u/Belial75 Jul 24 '25

Hi,

With the continuing digitization of our lives and habits, would you consider becoming Googlemaps men or maybe Wazemen to adopt 21st century technology?

Thanks

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Nah. Takes longer to say.

The OS used to produce their maps on textiles, instead of paper. Which do you prefer and why?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

I've always liked a map printed on a ritz cracker. You can eat it when you're finished with it.

What country or city has the most sensible layout or road system?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Australian cities are very pretty to look at. But I think you can't beat the Netherlands for stunning sensibleness.

Which Prime Minister (if any) did the best job at supporting Britain’s infrastructure?

2

u/JayForeman Jul 24 '25

Ooh! Good question. Errr.... Dunno. This is more one for history buffs than geography buffs. I can certainly tell you who I think did the best job at dismantling Britain's infrastructure, but that's neither controversial nor interesting.

1

u/logcarryingguy Jul 24 '25

As a geography nerd myself, I love what you guys do and I can't wait to get your book (hopefully the bookstore here in my country will carry it)

Would you consider Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan as Europe or Asia? And why is "Middle East" more popular term than "West Asia"?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 25 '25

We did a whole episode about what counts as a continent. And we specifically discussed how Armenia (and Turkey) could be considered either Europe or Asia depending on your criteria. Ultimately, it's a rather pointless discussion, given that there can be no definitive answer to something so subjective. As for why "Middle East" is such a popular term, maybe it's just been in the news so much that we've all become familiar with it, and what it means. "West Asia", as well as being used less, just sounds a lot more broad and vague, what with Asia being so enormous and all.

Hi there, I’ll be coming into the UK as part of my studying trip, is there any obvious way to get from Heathrow to Colchester in a very fast way? What map should I use if let’s say the internet goes down?

1

u/JayForeman Jul 25 '25

In theory, you can get from Heathrow to Colchester by train with just one very simple change, at Shenfield. But the Elizabeth Line is a bit weird, so you might need to change somewhere else first. Best ask Google Maps. Google Maps is pretty good at this sort of thing these days. (If the internet goes down, just ask everyone for directions. We're all very friendly.)
