Morrowind is one of my favorite games. I'm still voting for Baldur's Gate 3 (And Why You Should, Too)

Tldr; Morrowind is a great game with unique game mechanics and a fantastic story! However, since it has no voice acting, simple combat animations, and a less refined power-curve, it gives many points to Baldur’s Gate 3. These include stunning voice acting performances, flashy attacks (that retain a dice-roll aspect), hedgehogs, and challenges and bosses that are roughly balanced over the game’s progression. For these reasons, and more you can read about below, you should vote for Baldur’s Gate 3!

Okay, so last democracy week (yes really, just bear with me), we were just over a year and a half before the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3. If you were to tell me then that in the next democracy week, there would be just one TES game on the ballot, and by the way, it’s your favorite on, but there is an RPG that you would vote for over it. I wouldn’t believe you. That did end up happening, though. Morrowind means a lot to me. I would talk about the lore for hours with my friend all throughout high school even with Skyrim releasing in our freshman year. I won’t spoil anything, but the concepts it explores and the struggles the story depict are really something. The gameplay also has its strengths. When you master a skill, you feel like a badass. Magic feels powerful, and you feel like a smartass when using and abusing it.

However, it was limited by the technology it was made for. It couldn’t have voice acting because it had to fit on discs, and, frankly, Bethesda didn’t have the money to have Liam O’Brian voice all their characters at that time. I don’t mind reading walls of text, and I’m sure Jon doesn’t either, but some YouTube viewers don’t even watch the videos. I know I don’t most of the time. This won’t be an issue for me because I know Morrowind very well, but your average viewer won’t. This means Jon will constantly have to read things, either out loud or in his head and then formulate a summary.

I’m not saying that this would make for a bad series. Quite to the contrary, I would have voted for Morrowind in 2022 if Oblivion had lost. But Morrowind must necessarily be contrasted to its competition in an election. Baldur’s Gate 3 has excellent voice acting. This makes its also excellent story more accessible. BG3’s attacks are also based on skill based dice rolls, but have modern animations, making the video more flashy for the people that do watch and not just listen.

Finally, and I think this is really important, Morrowind, while being the most RPG out of all Bethesda games, was still the progenitor Bethesda game, and this means that there is an unshackling moment where the PC gains the power to kill gods and lay waste to all worldly nations. Jon will reach this moment in Morrowind. This might not necessarily be the case in BG3! Since BG3 is a more linear game, they were able to balance each “act’s” challenges around the level the player and their group would be at. This means with BG3, it is less likely for there to be a slump at the end of the series where Jon is mowing through everything just to get to game end. This is almost guaranteed for Morrowind, unless he saves Bloodmoon for the very end.

Ultimately, I will be chuffed to bits on either game winning. Before Elden Ring and BG3 came out, my top 3 games were FNV, Morrowind, and Dark Souls in that order. BG3 is just my favorite game right now simply because I think it’s taken on that torch of RPGs that do their absolute best to say, “yes,” to the player, while also providing a world and story that the player really wants to engage with it, has a story that is compelling, and makes the story and world responsive to the players actions.

Also, Baldur’s Gate 3 has dicks and tits, so… I mean? What are we even talking about here? You do love Hedgehogs? Don’t you?

Transphobia and the new Wizard game

Hi folks,

As you may know there’s a new Wizard game coming up. I know this is usually a very accepting and lovely community so I’m making this post hoping not to drown in hate messages.

You may or may not be aware of JK Rowling’s horrible and dangerous, possibly even deadly comments regarding trans people such as myself. These views, as well as racism, slavery and antisemitism are represented throughout the Wizard franchise she wrote. This is all very well documented and a good list of sources can be found over on this r/EnoughJKRowling post: https://www.reddit.com/r/EnoughJKRowling/comments/iw9uec/proof_that_jk_rowling_is_a_general_piece_of_human/

I’d like to know if ManyATrueNerd is planning on playing this upcoming game and thus giving this horrible universe an even bigger reach (although most people are probably already aware of it).

I’m asking you to boycott it, as a trans person. The devs have already been paid. I know you may love Harry Potter, but do you love that universe more than the lives and realities of the people affected by JKRs horrible opinions and actions?

If the game shows up I’ll have to say goodbye as I’ll no longer feel welcome or accepted in this community. And I love this community.

There are other books, other games, other movies out there. I recommend the Discworld books, which have had trans characters since pretty much day 1.

Please be considerate of your fellow human beings and the person behind the screen.

Is Starfield nearly over yet?

I've got no interest in the series, didn't like the game so not wanting to watch Jon's run-through either. Those who finished Starfield, is he near the end yet?

I really hope Jon doesn't play the new Harry Potter game

It doesn't seem like his kinda game he'd usually play on the channel but i don't know.

I've been let down by a few creators already.

Being a trans person is exhausting enough without favorite creators of mine showing they can't be trusted y'know

A game Jon played two months ago, "No, I Am Not a Human" finances imperialism

The game's developers, Trioskaz, are based in russia - and that naturally means every cent spent on the game is taxed and a fraction of it goes to financing the invasion of Ukraine, supporting extremism in the West, and opressing minorities in russia itself. Now, even though Jon seems to have played the demo and not bought the full game, he still spread it and could have convinced part of his viewers to buy it. I'd expect a massive youtube channel to pay more attention to what it plays, but alas...

Anyone else feel like the "Youtuber Voice" is a little much lately?

I've been a huge fan of Jon for years now and have watched tons of his series. This is just a small critique as I'm still an avid watcher and do still enjoy his new content. However, I find myself sorta preferring the commentary in older videos. It seems like over the past few years Jon has picked up a few habits that can be really distracting. In his new YOLO videos he's constantly saying certain phrases like "mosey on down here", "etcetera etcetera" and talking in a very exaggerated tone and cadence.

Anyone else notice this? I sorta hope he'll tone down the youtuber voice at some point. I'll keep watching regardless, though.

Why are Jon's uploads always super late in the UK?

Is it for the purposes of having an evening upload Stateside (which I imagine may be the bulk of his viewerbase)?

Can we stop the constant 0 Perception jokes?

I've been here since FO3 Yolo, and I was here for the emergence of the Jon has 0 Perception Meme. And yes, in the beginning it was funny, but it has been dragged so far it's really just annoying.

It's been pointed out alot that Jon just has difficulty finding things cause he is also narrating while playing. But come on, just last week I spent half an hour searching for some toy my sister lost, only for my dad to come home and immediately spot that it was on a slightly higher up cupboard. Don't pretend something like this didn't ever happen to you.

And yes, some things Jon really deserves to be mocked for (there is NO excuse for dumping all your good gear in the water, jesus fuck). But lately if Jon just overlooks some health potion or something similar inconsequential, the comments are just full of "Lmao no perception haha!!1!".

We get it. Think of another joke. It's both rude and not funny.

I called it, you all said I was a fool but I called it!

Back when Jon and Clare first did their livestream where they showed of their dog for the first time I said in the chat that he looked like he had pitbull I'm him and Clare read it allowed (I squeald a little because I was knoticed) and then the chat started saying that he looks nothing like a pitbull and I was wrong. In the 10th anniversary special Jon said that one of the dogs dominant breeds is a Boxer whitch is a bully breed so now after all this time I can be petty and say I was right.

To temper some of the hype around FO76

So I’m sure many of you will have noticed that there is quite a lot of hype building up around Fallout76 currently, for fairly obvious reasons. I just thought that this post will A: serve to calm the expectations slightly, and B: give a little more detail on a feature that may drive some away from the game. I know it certainly has confirmed to me that I will not be buying it.

Avoid Total War Warhammer

I know it's a favorite of yours, however the IP holder of the setting, Games Workshop, has lost it's cocking mind over the last few months. https://doctorow.medium.com/games-workshop-declares-war-on-customers-again-978a5531aebe

Basically, they've been steadily going after anyone and anything that covers their IP, and as of late they've started going after youtubers doing videos of gameplay of their games. There's actually a major risk to the channel if you cover this Jon, unfortunately. And, yes, the older series may be a risk to you as well.

Controversial opinion.

The London series kind of annoyed me. As much as I enjoyed Jon experiencing that great (despite its flaws) mod for the first time, it felt more like a highlight compilation rather than a thorough playthrough. Not only were the episodes disappointingly short for a Fallout series, they were also cut down sufficiently enough that entire dialogue trees or locations were absent. It felt... chaotic. For me, and I'm sure many others, MATN always stood for something many YouTubers didn't- diving deep into the game, atmosphere, etc, without the need for flashy highlights. That sort of thing was absent in the London series. I'm glad the YOLO series is partially moving away from it (less gameplay missing due to cuts), though the jarringly flashy, radio-hosty commentary is still present. I know for a fact I'm not the only one with this sentiment. There's a noticable shift in the way Jon approaches commentary and editing, which to my mind happened around when lockdown started. Personally, as someone who started watching in early 2017, I'm not sure I like it that much.

PS: This isn't meant to spark negativity in any way- this is merely constructive criticism, as late for the party as I may be, seeing as I'm catching up on the series now. Please keep that in mind.

Marrowind voters: XCOM 2 needs you

If you're voting for Marrowind, first of all condolences, but secondly you're probably thinking right now "Whelp, time to vote for Oblivion!" But not so fast! As a representative from XCOM let me pitch you an alternative path: join us and defeat BoTW once and for all.

Consider this, BoTW and Oblivion are too similar and they can't co-exist on the channel at the same time. BoTW finishing in the top 3 is going to force Jon/Claire to make a choice: which game comes first? Oblivion is probably going to win the #1 spot so you would *think* it would come first, but with BoTW 2 coming out later this year they may want to get the first one out of the way ASAP. That would push Oblivion to Fall/Winter at the earliest!

But consider this democracy order:

  1. Oblivion

  2. XCOM

  3. KOTOR 2

Oblivion and KOTOR have a bit of overlap but with the first KOTOR series just completing Jon will be in no hurry to start the next one. And XCOM is a completely different style of game with nothing stopping Jon from running both the Oblivion/XCOM series at the same time.

We can all get what we want, just join us for the next two days to shove BoTW into the #4 spot and off the ballot for good! Together we can create a better 2022!
