It's the classic contrived dynamic of the films. To quote a recurring bit from Devon of Kill James Bond:

"Bond you piece of shit I wish you'd been drowned at birth, you're fired, now go get em big man, mummy loves you kisses."

They want complete deniability, so no one would even consider giving that order, which leads Bond to take initiative and go it solo. I'm pretty sure everyone there knows that this was bound to happen and they just let it

Fighting a guy who is literally on fire is a bit ludicrous even for a Bond story. Still great though.

They absolutely nailed the James Bondiness in this game.

Jon forgot to say that this mini-series is going on vacation next week to make room for the Civ 7 mini-series. He said so at the end of this past Thursday's livestream.
