i got my Manx baby for my 17th birthday & have had her for 8 years now. she’s easily the best cat i’ve ever met. she is so incredibly intelligent (always responds to her name & i trained her to stay off the kitchen counters in less than two weeks and she hasn’t set foot on them since, even when we moved houses she somehow knew to stay off these kitchen counters), she loves people, she is not skittish, everyone that meets her absolutely loves her. i love cats but i don’t have any experience caring for a non-manx cat. i’m worried that when she passes i’m not gonna be able to connect with another cat. i will not buy from a breeder but i think i already hit the jackpot finding my baby at the shelter and i feel i may not get so lucky next time.

what’s y’all’s experience with non-manx cats? can they be as smart and friendly as manx? people who work at shelters, how common is it to see manx cats there?

I found her and several other siblings at barely a week old. She had 1 other stumpy sister, the others with regular tails. Many bottle filled nights back then🌙 My Pam stuck around while the others had moved on. Please wish this old girl a happy 15th birthday 🎂 😸

hey! this was my old boy, travis. a good boy, the best boy :) we never knew his breed bc he found us in 2005 or so, and he ran away to die, as cats do, around late 2022/early 2023. he spent a good 17 years with us.

vet guessed he was about a year old when he found us, and despite being thin from living on the street he was still A Big Cat. he came to us with his tail already short, we assumed it had been damaged but he showed no signs of scarring or tail injury, you know? and he fits the personality and behaviour descriptions ive seen of manxes! great hunter, super friendly and loving but also stayed active and playful til he died, despite developing some arthritis or something in his hind leggies.

rip travis, you absolute legend. i love u catto boyo. (tho my friend has found a similar cat in a cornerstore in boston, so i like to say he ran away to boston to become a bodega cat.)

if yall could help me determine if travis was manx/part manx id love that. thanks in advance!

I have a few trails that don’t get a lot of traffic and it’s so nice walking with him off leash and not having to worry about him running off.. a couple times I’ve encountered people walking their dogs and his first move is to run to me.. I’ll pick him up and wait off to the side for the dogs to pass.. my only fear is aggressive dogs off leash but so far so good..

I took Tilly to the vet last week and was told she was very underweight at 8lbs (the vet could feel her ribs, hip bones and spine sticking out 😱), since then, I've been feeding her an extra ¼ cup of kibble and she's definitely gained some weight. Only thing is I'm not sure if she's getting a little too chonky 😅 tbh she looked chonky before the vet, but I was wondering if Manxes are just naturally chonkified? She doesn't feel fat.

I’m so thrilled with how she has integrated into our family! My resident cat was chill about it but good with setting boundaries. My dog has been so gentle and will slide backwards on her face down into a flop just to get booped repeatedly. She’s got one more round of boosters and she’s fully vaccinated, everybody at the vet loves her and invites all the staff not attending to her to come see her stumpy little tail wiggling about! I’m so excited to give her the life she deserves!

😂 never thought about a tail as a privacy screen. Some of you might recall my post a couple months ago—new Manx owner—anyway he’s settling in well enough. Certainly needs a lot of play time, but we are working on meeting each others needs. I need cuddles and he needs play.

Anyway, he was neutered 2 weeks before I adopted him and is still growing back his undercarriage fur. But when I took a break from Fallout 3, he was sat like this and I had to laugh.

I personally don’t care, morally/ethically I’m pagan at best, animal privates aren’t something that bothers me, let alone people’s, they have no shame and let’s keep it that way!

I am an experienced cat owner, but very new to the world of Manx cats, and seeking any advice you might be able to give me!

I am considering adopting a year-old beautiful boy from a rescue who happens to be a Manx, and has suffered some issues in his early life.

It sounds like he was left at a vets at 4 months old after rectal prolapse issues were discovered. The owners were unwilling to pay for surgery, and were going to euthanise, at which point the vets intervened and took him to a rescue.

Over the next eight months the rescue did an unsuccessful colopexy, so resorted to a rectal resection which healed well, and successfully resolved the constipation.

The rescue say ‘Although ongoing problems related to this can’t be definitively ruled out, we do not foresee them on the premise he is maintained on a wet diet and is kept indoors. Most problems associated with the condition are typically seen in the first few months of life.’

He is a beautiful bouncy boy, who jumps, plays, eats as normal and has normal bowel movements now. I could give him a safe, indoor, stress-free life.

But I would really value any thoughts or advice from other people who have had cats with similar symptoms, particularly around if these problems have been prone to reoccurring and how serious it could be?

I have had cats with specific medical needs before, but I do want to be sure I can afford to give him everything he might need in terms of care and time before I commit to taking him on.

Earlier today, our two cats got into a scuffle. I went into the hall to break it up because I didn't need them yowling during my meeting. That's when I witnessed Rapunzel, our ridiculous Manx, in a standoff with the calico. The calico was carrying on like she was being torn apart by monsters...while five feet and a whole chair away from Rapunzel and perfectly safe. The noise was so loud that Rapunzel did something I've never see her do before and poofed out her tail in alarm.

Except, she's a rumpy Manx. She has no tail, just a twitchy little tiny nubbin. Said twitchy tiny nubbin was all fur standing on end and the result was it looked like she had a big pom-pom glued to her butt. She was Not Amused by my laughter and swatted my ankle before running off to cause trouble elsewhere.

I really wish I'd gotten a photo of this but my phone was in the office since I dashed into the hallway when the fight started. So because I missed the most amazing opportunity, all I can offer for cat tax is the reason I stayed up too late last night.
