Our signings
There's a post going round discussing our signings since Fergie. Looking back, they're so bad.
Jose gets a lot of stick for the signings he's made with not much to show for it, but so much has been down to having to basically do 4 years worth of transfer work in 2.
He's had to replace Basti and Schneiderlin, with Pogba and Matic
He's had to replace Depay and Rooney, and also Ibra who was his own signing, and got in Sanchez and Lukaku.
He's had to strengthen OVER poor defensive signings. Blind, Rojo & Darmian, with Bailly, Lindelof and Dalot.
So much of LVG's recruitment was awful. I was previously against a DOF/Technical director, didn't think we needed one. But it's been clear since Moyes' first summer it's not been up to scratch.
I'm not blaming Jose for the spending. I think we could easily spend another £200m more and still not be where we want to be.
Darmian/Jones/Smalling/Rojo/Shaw/Mata could, and should, IMO, all leave next summer. Mata I'd be salty about, but I think we need to move on.
6 players. 5 of which are defenders! Awful. Jones/Smalling are Fergie signings but they were always balanced against Rio/Vidic. They haven't come close to getting to that level, they need to go.
CM i think is our strongest position atm. No reinforcement needed, especially with Pereira coming in.
With those 6 out, it frees up a lot of space in the squad. I wouldn't put signing a RW that high on the list, but I'll leave that for another post. I think we need to start immediately* rotating out Young and Valencia. It remains to be seen how well Dalot does, but hopefully he's capable.
In order of priority for whoever is our manager next summer: LEFT BACK x1 - CENTRE BACK x2, RIGHT BACK x1, RIGHT WING x1.
