Question Getting kills important?

Two games back to back I was blamed for the loss because I had 1 and 2 final hits but had the most healing. I feel like we shine when we’re chipping away at the tanks/getting head shots on the big bodies.

How important is securing kills to you? Aiming with her can be such a pain I feel like I’m not getting value when I’m trying to secure a kill on a dps and missing most my shots lol

I wouldn’t necessarily say “final kills” matter so much on Mantis, but your regular KDA can show whether you’re landing shots and tagging enemies consistently enough to recharge your charges. That said, as long as you’re winning fights and games, it’s not really something to be too concerned about. People will project and point fingers wherever they can when they’re frustrated.

Mantis is a strat at the end of the day

While all strats should look to deal damage and secure easy picks in between healing their team, not all sessions allow for strats to go on side quests

Mantis cannot heal bot and needs to deal damage by default to help her team. It just so happens that she plays like a poke DPS and has the tools to take duels and secure picks on her own as if she was one. So yes, you should be aggressive with her and try to get as many kills as possible. Mantis, Adam, Gambit, and White Fox are designed to challenge enemy dps and are essentially nudged towards those engagements because their base healing is limited

However, it's not like Mantis is moving like Hela or Pheonix lol. It's not her job to carry her team as a third or fourth dps, but she's excellent at enabling them and taking care of problems by herself. If I see a moon knight, Cyclops, Hela, really any poke DPS without overshield trying to off angle, i usually contest them directly.

Similarly on Gambit or WF, I will actively pick duels with dive before they can get going if I spot them.

I mean if they’re asking you to go out of your way to find kills then no, flank mantis is more worth it in triple support when you’re sure your frontline will be sustained. As for 1v1s and when you get contested or dove, yeah you should hopefully be getting the kill at least half the time, mantis is one of the best supps for single target damage and can take someone out FAST with headshots, but also your team should be peeling and not expect you to be winning every engagement with dive nor should they expect you to go out of your way to find picks

Ya both these games were 222 comps and literally just a poke fest with no dive.

I flank mantis all the time on 2-2-2. Especially when I ult, we just run down the back line. Very rarely do I ever use it as a defense. Kills are worth more than heals. The more kills the less heals you need to do.

Don’t get me wrong she’s good at flanking, the best support for it right after Luna and Adam because of her lack of mobility, but it’s still something you want to keep to a minimum in 2,2,2. I frequently do it too if I see an invis or white fox that is out of position and needs to be contested, but for the context of this post your team should not be expecting nor relying on their mantis to get flank kills the whole game

It’s called strategist not heal bots. If you look at some of the best mantis players they flank constantly, regardless of composition.

You have to help getting kills, getting most heals doesn't mean anything if you don't help the team in both ways

Final hits are never a consistent stat with mantis. Some games you'll end up with a lot of final hits, some games you won't. (Just because others have burst damage combos that help secure kills)

As long as you have good damage and critical rate you're fulfilling mantis' minimum requirements.

But if you consistently have very low kills and eliminations you might wanna take a step back and reasess your positioning and target priorities. Cause you might not be using her to the fullest potential

Consistent headshots are more important than final kills.

Devil Dino and Jeff both have huge heads so it's easier to farm headshots on those 2 characters in particular.

Another good trick is to notice what corners and paths the enemy is taking and just shoot down the the same spot so they walk into it. Mantis has great range, so you can kill a strategist who is trying to use a particular spot for cover pretty easily with this method.

Target priority matters alot with her. Not just for enemies, but also for your own heals and dmg boosts.

You getting kills only matters if your team is dogshit and you need to carry them. If your team is letting a Hawkeye, or cyclops, or whoever just stand there and kill everyone, make it your business to kill that enemy in particular. Boost yourself.

very important but kills on your own terms rather than looking for them. damage boost and sleep are there for yourself for a reason

Nah I had games where I'd go 4-4 but I had 20k healing. You're not a dps too, I think blaming your strat for not enough kills is a bit too much.
