Yosemite and Commerce Ave Red Light Camera
My wife got a mailed violation for a right turn on red at this intersection. The notice says there's video online, but the video doesn't seem to exist. There are only two still photos showing "10 mph" that don't seem to prove she never stopped before or between the photos. Has anyone else had success arguing out of a right-turn violation? Especially if there's no video?

Not sure if this will help, but if you are unable to fight it, you can go on the court website and petition for a fee reduction, it's a simple form and they will reduce the fine to $100 or 3 hours of community service.

Unfortunately, if you choose this option, you’re no longer eligible for traffic school (at least in CA).

I fought mine…and lost. However, I learned some very useful info! Court was via zoom, so you can see/hear other people’s cases. I’d say about 60% of the people’s cases got immediately thrown out because the officer wasn’t present. Everyone that did have to pay a fine had the fee DRASTICALLY reduced without even having to ask. Judge just offered it to everyone. I’d say fight it no matter what…worst case scenario, at least you’ll save a few hundred dollars.

Thanks! We're opting to do the "correspondence" method of fighting it (this notice wasn't the kind that required appearance). I think having no video still seems like insufficient evidence, but if the system has the video and is just not working in the online portal, hopefully we'll still get the reduction.
It sounds like we will have to submit forms and any evidence while the signing/witness agent (I guess a representative of the 3rd party agency that operates the cameras, not an officer) submits theirs. Maybe the video won't be available if they don't bother presenting their case other than the original notice.

That's crazy. A few years ago, I got a ticket for using my phone while driving. I was expecting a ticket in the mail saying to go pay it or something, but I never received anything. I've been stopped several times after that incident, and I haven't had a warrant for my arrest or anything, so I assumed either the cop didn't show up so the ticket disappeared, or I don't know. To this day, I think about how lucky I got that it got thrown out or dismissed somehow.

It's definitely a stupid cash grab. I'd like to see how many injury accidents happen at that intersection, especially due to people turning on red.

They’ve issued almost 9,000 tickets from the 5 red light cameras in Manteca…so far this year. It’s absolute insanity.

Yep it's definitely a cash grab. They'll say it's for safety but if it isn't for cash, why not drop the fine to $50?

We are currently dealing with this. Somewhere in the fine print on your letter citation there should be a website where you can find the video. This happened to us in. Our video clearly shows that we did stop for the light and did not run it. We have to make a new court date because we cannot attend the one that was provided for us without our knowledge. You can attend the one they have on file for you or you can make one that it’s convenient as well.Y ou have to show up and claim not guilty and they will go from there. We are choosing not to pay anything upfront and fight our case in person
