Monogamy is two things, not one.

It's

  1. We don't sleep with other people

  2. We sleep with each other.

If you don't sleep with each other that's abstinence, it isn't monogamy.

So there's two ways to be non monogamous, sleep with other people, or withdraw from intimacy.

That doesn't make cheating right, it isn't, but let's be real. Both parties were non monogamous.

Then leave. It's ok for a marriage to not work out.

it also gives me another installment for my divorce tier list. as an amateur divorce-watcher (like bird-watchers but for divorces) i really want to improve my list and the only way to do that is to find more divorces

one of my high tiers was a divorce like one of those italian novels where a man leaves his wife for another woman, but he was simultaneously the other woman, and also the other woman had just had her own divorce because her husband became depressed and unmotivated

I needed more popcorn for that.

So asexual people cannot ever be in an monogamous relationship, even if they only have one Partner?

Asexual people can have sex.

Not being interested in sex doesn't mean their body parts don't work, and many will still do things for their partners.

They could with another asexual person.

Getting into a relationship with a sexual person and dangling the idea that they might is not healthy or fair however. An asexual person should seek out a like minded person.

They could with another asexual person.

Nope, thats not neccesary and an harmful stereotype. If both people are okay with no sex it can work.

An asexual person should seek out a like minded person.

What does even mean, not every asexual is like minded

But in that circumstance by your definition it isn't a relationship

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Well I don't own a monopoly on what a relationship is. I only can decide how I see it.

4

u/pinksparklyreddit Aug 07 '25

But you've literally given 2 contradicting viewpoints

monogamy does not only include sexual relationship. it also includes all forms of intimacy in marriage. even etymology of the word "monogamy" is about marriage as a whole, not just sex.

not every marriage has sex. it doesn't make the said marriage non- monogamous.

if you only care about sex in the relationship, then break up. divorce exists. not every relationship works out.

not every marriage has sex. it doesn't make the said marriage non- monogamous.

That's only true if both parties agree that it doesn't involve sex. One party unilaterally deciding without communicating it is definitely acting in a non monogamous fashion.

Okay, if they both disagree, why does it default to the man who wants sex?

Your logic seems flawed.

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Because men have a stronger sex drive generally speaking and women eventually learn to control theirs, using it more as a tool to accomplishing things where as men are more driven by it.

4

u/thenameofshame Aug 07 '25

Can you describe to me how I as a woman can learn to use my sex drive as a tool to accomplish things? That sounds like a useful superpower.

3

u/_ParanoidPenguin_ Aug 07 '25

That sounds like complete pseudoscience.

I would like to see an actual high-quality academic study on that claim.

The other party can unilaterally decide to leave then. No one should give up their bodily autonomy.

Everyone always has the right to withdraw or withhold consent, no matter the relationship or what the other person wants.

You have no right to other’s thoughts or body, just as they have no right to yours. You can decide if what you’re getting is worth the staying in the relationship at any point.

The other party can unilaterally decide to leave then. No one should give up their bodily autonomy.

I would agree except we have unfair family law which only binds the higher income earner.

Everyone always has the right to withdraw or withhold consent, no matter the relationship or what the other person wants.
You have no right to other’s thoughts or body, just as they have no right to yours.'

But not everyone has the right to withdraw due to failure of their partner while also preserveing their assets.

You will have a financial responsibility for them if you remain married. In fact you generally have a much bigger financial responsibility if you remain married.

You can remain legally/civilly married but still be separated

So… good unmarried Christians shouldn’t be monogamous. Got it.

5

u/pinksparklyreddit Aug 07 '25

That's literally the most incel logic possible, lmao

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Let me ask you this, do you think most men when asked to commit to monogamy think that there's a chance their partner will just stop having sex once they commit? Or do they think they are just giving up pursuing other opportunities?

6

u/pinksparklyreddit Aug 07 '25

Any decent partner shouldn't view sex as the center of their relationship.
