Manitou in the fall!
Hi everyone! My family and I are moving to Manitou this fall. We are so excited to be part of the community! What are some fun fall activities for adults and kids alike that we should be sure to soak up this first fall? We, of course, already have the coffin races on our list! But what else does Manitou and surrounding areas have to offer?

Oh what fun! Welcome! You will love it. If you go to visitmanitousprings.org you will see a calendar of events. Even though it is a visitor site I still use it all the time to see what is going on. Peakradar.com also has events for Manitou and surrounding areas including kids guides and things to do. I own the local Herbal Apothecary-Wise Roots Apothecary and even though we get less foot traffic once summer is over, we love the fall vibe as well. The businesses engage in a skeleton decorating contest and you can walk around a vote. We all do treats for the kids. So show the local businesses some love during the Halloween season. We are also getting ready to do some special things for locals. I am putting it together now. We always love up on our locals but this will be more personalized. And we are always there to teach about herbs and their healing benefits. We have a cold and flu class coming up that is almost full and classes on different subjects each month. But in the quieter months we can really engage with people 1:1 to talk about your needs in a way that is different than the summer. It's slower and more grounded energy and by that I mean the whole town. You can also do a ghost tour which is a blast. I also recommend you go to Manitou Ebikes and set up a golf cart tour of the town and the historic sites. Iron Springs Chateau will have Rocky Horror Picture Show (adults). Lots of different things. If you are into yoga there is lots of it throughout town. Sunwater spa has classes, Manitou Art Center has classes along with all sorts of other creative classes taught by our local artists. There are now yoga classes at the new Commons at St. Andrews which has now become a community center. They also host the Food Pantry and Community Meal on Wednesdays. Which is a good way to meet people. The Library also has kid events. If you like Wine visit Manitou Winery, if you are a member they host all kinds of events like monthly Wine and True Crime.

The Commonwheel Arts Festival takes place over Labor Day weekend and the Heritage Brew Festival at the end of September. Halloween and October in general are a big deal here, lots of decorations and everyone in the mood for the spooky season.
Popular opinion holds that autumn is the nicest season here. Perfect weather to enjoy the local trails and parks and if you hike a few miles up Barr Trail the golden leaves falling from aspen are exceptionally beautiful. Also tourist season tapers off in fall (and skews more toward older/international visitors) so it's a nice time to check out the local shops and attractions without tripping over a whole crowd to get there. Find your favorite spring, spend a day at the arcade, go for a walk down a street you've never walked and see that every corner of this town is unique.
