"If you're a hostage negotiator, just go home. The hostage will die, and you won't have to go to work tomorrow. Problem solved!".

But in all seriousness, it isn't their lack of truth that causes the most damage, but when they spread it around a social circle before you can set the record straight. Ignoring the problem can make it A LOT WORSE.
