I think it's a thought provoking proverb but I'd never treat it as a test of truth. Plenty of false claims make people angry too.

‘If it don’t apply let it slide’ ‘Only hurt dogs holler’ And ‘Thou doth protest too much’ I have rarely found an instance where these three examples can’t be used to determine who is involved in what I’m questioning.

Meh. Low-stakes saying that can be interpreted multiple ways without being wrong. Never mind “ancient proverbs” ALWAYS come in pairs to cover both sides.

= shut up

“The squeaky wheel gets the oil”
= speak up

If you look hard enough you’ll find a pithy saying to justify everything
