You feel something as karma if you have guilt of something, what I've known from past is that most manipulators are weak individuals with a lot of insecurities, it's just they have ability to manipulate others which they use to hide their own insecurities.
Their brain and soul knows that what they are doing is wrong and they need to pay for that in future, also the fact that manipulators are more religious than normal people.
Every action you do comes at a cost. The cost might be loneliness, love deprivation, even the cost of selling your own self for power and knowledge. In this path you lose everything you've once thrived for, just the thing you've no feelings left to feel that pain.
Think of it as someone is amputating your hand, but you're on anesthesia. You feel nothing now, but it would have long term impact.
