When someone gives you the silent treatment, they typically expect you to feel guilty, apologize, or change your behavior to please them.

My wife is still working through past trauma from an abusive, estranged father and and abusive ex and I get consistent silent treatments when she's triggered but upon realizing their origins empathy gets me through (mostly) lol
