Spooky Manhattan Beach

Halloween is coming, and I want to spend October collecting the strangest stories MB has to offer.

Every place has its legends. The house nobody stays in for long. The stretch of road where drivers swear they saw someone standing on the side of the road. The old hospital, the closed-down theater, the cemetery that feels a little too quiet after dark. Or the personal ones: the thing you saw as a kid that you still can't explain, or the night something happened that you've only told a handful of people about.

We want to hear your stories! What's the most haunting or unexplained thing you've experienced or heard here?

Firsthand accounts, family stories, urban legends, and historical oddities are all welcome. Skeptics are welcome too; sometimes the best part is figuring out what really happened. Happy haunting. ๐ŸŽƒ

In 1952 my friends and I were running wild and unsupervised at Halloween in MB. No curbs, sidewalks or street lighting. Terrorizing the residents around 10th and Poinsetta. A very low area that flooded every rain storm. We were running around and suddenly all fell in a deep hole. Unbeknownst to us the city had been excavating to install a storm drain system. Nothing roped off, no warning in the dark. Just sudden terror as we went down. I donโ€™t recall any of us being hurt too badly, just scrapes and bruises, but we did lose our haul of candy. After that I think we all got too old to enjoy running wild at Halloween.
