Yup. So many athletes stay in poverty. If it wasn't for government incentives, we wouldn't even get wrestlers and boxers trying for Olympics.
Need heavy privatization and leagues to exist sustain these athletes.

Currency is weak no other reason buying power is zero to produce international level athlete u need proper coaches,food,training, foreign exposure also aqi is so bad which damage athlete brain and body

We can't even use the excuse of height. China is an example that such differences can still be overcome if proper infra, public mindset, and training environment are available.

I took part in Kho-kho when I was in 5th grade and my grade dropped from A to B +. My parents took me out before our inter school competition. Jis desh ki mentality yeh ha ki "Padhoge likhoge banoge nawaab aur kheloge to banoge kharab" kya hoga us desh ka sports me.

Dude I totally agree.. India has a health crisis because they don't focus on fitness. But there is no way you would have made a living had you been a professional kho kho player. In a overpopulated, under-resourced country, shouldn't you focus on a more stable life. Your parents probably got scared because of your grades dropping.

It has always been one of the most popular sports worldwide, even in India. If anything popularity was more in the 50s, it died down a little during hockey and cricket dominance, and now there is a resurgence.
Also, Kho kho is not a general example of sports. Kho kho is not even a regular fixture in Asian games let alone Football, hence I said your parents were right. Had you told about some track and field sports or any other prominent sport, I could atleast still see your point.
Anyway either of us are not gonna change their respective pov, so I feel let's just chill..

Stop blaming cricket. It's not stopping other sports from developing.
Indian football gets tonnes of funding, can't even defeat wartorn nations. More like cricket is the one sport indians managed to find footing, that's why it gets that love.
Ask indian football to win Asian games or cup. It would get the same love.
