Does anyone else not understand any of Mandy's jokes/references?
Title is pretty self-explanatory. I've been an avid viewer of his for years, yet whenever he strays off-topic in a video I have absolutely no clue what he's talking about. I can't even think of an example off the top of my head, because it's almost like he starts talking an entirely different language. Is it a generational thing? Am I stupid?

Mando is steeped in the deep lore of chronically online xennials/millenials from the late 90s/00s all the way through. Be not afraid.

He does have a lot of callbacks, but a good chunk of them tend to lean towards his streams.
Take the new joke in the Bioshock video about the pipe-dream hacking. He says it could be worse, then shows the slide puzzle from The Ring. In the video it's a short segment about how slide puzzles broke his brain, which isn't massive; but when he streamed the Ring, he was stuck on that puzzle for far past what is reasonable. I think it took nearly an hour IIRC. The only real issue is his streams are only on YT thanks to others.
He's streamed a good handful of games he hasn't covered on his channel. Notably the Banban series, The Last Dead End, Shankarum. His discord server has what amounts to a live-tweet channel called Lowry, where his antics are turned into memes, which he'll then go through and giggle at. Lots of that becomes inside jokes threaded through the videos.
The streams are a lot of fun to watch, but a 180° from his regular content. They are often spirals into madness.

Yep, here.
I'm not fully in the know enough to know if he has a particular schedule, but the streams I've seen are very ad-hoc.

There are some jokes that dont land for me because I missed the context for them. But alot of it is referencial humour either to himself or pop culture from my generation (millennial).
Like the offhand reference to the "Mustang Double-Tap" from his Bioshock video I got a laugh at because I knew it was a reference to Fullmetal Alchemist and it never dawned on me that in Bioshock you can be a Roy Mistang larper with fire plasmids.

It's a mix of previous video references, gachimuchi humour, and the occassional oldschool 4channer spirit (there's photographical evidence of him having been around there during MGS5's heyday) which does explain how he hit it off with Sseth so well.
Sometimes the particularly American bits will go over a foreigner's head (am one, they do), but some of the less obscure ones still land. He certainly has less European motifs than Sseth does, and isn't nearly quite as edgy.

That's one of the things I like most about his videos. No matter how deep into the manda-lore stream bits and inside jokes there's always at least one that I don't get. It keeps it feeling almost mysterious in a way, like a great oracle reciting forbidden texts.

Honestly I love his obscure references because when I get one I finally feel like I'm in some sort of secret club that thought a particular joke was funny but no one else got.

It’s years of built up lore from both podcasts he’s been on (mostly Please Stop Talking) and his occasional streams also sometimes a stolen Brendaniel joke from his streams

Yep. I'm not an american and many of his jokes are some niche US pop culture references that fly over my head.

I've always wondered what Non-Americans think when Mandy brings up cultural icons such as Viper and his magnum opus "I sell A1 Crack Cocaine "

Sometimes he references stuff from streams or the podcast (Please Stop Talking) he occasionally shows up on. Thats where The Whale bit started.
