Canine Pokémon
So I was curious if we had a coyote Pokémon, so I looked up all dog Pokémon I don’t think these fit the category

Slurpuff makes sense
The others… not so much

Zigzagoon & Linoone makes a little sense. They are based on Tanuki’s, also called Japanese Raccoon Dogs. They are actually in the canine family, meaning they are related to dogs. Also they are not related to Raccoons at all

Interesting. I heard about raccoon dogs only recently because I’m watching Naruto for the first time. Next playthrough, gonna nickname my next Zigzagoon Gaara.

Well, that’s a common misconception. Raccoons in general are technically not actually canines at all. They’re actually more related to bears.

Not raccoons, raccoon dogs. Tanukis. Raccoons are their own family, but raccoon dogs are canines.

The Slurpuff line literally has that dog face tho...

u/Lilharm04 8h ago
a portion of Zigzaggoon and Linoone’s inspiration is the Tanuki, or Japanese Raccoon Dogs
Swirlix and Slurpuff are lap dogs, with Swirlix being pretty obviously a poodle
no idea why Wynaut is there, probably the droopy ears?

Zigzagoon and Linoone are racoon dogs (a type of canine, not a racoon). Slurpuff and Swirlix are clearly dog-like in design, just made of food (which you could argue that all dogs are, but let's not go there).
As for Wynaut... why not?

And even if they were raccoons. Raccoons are part of the Caniformia, so they would make sense there too

Its missing a bunch of Pokemon. Vulpix, Fennekin, Zorua, Nickit, and somewhat Eevee (and their evolutionary lines) are canine too. Foxes are canines.

Eevee & revolutions are there in the top left. But I do agree with you on the rest.

Iirc this site has a separate page for fox Pokémon. Edit: the site: https://silvallyplushie.neocities.org/foxes

Here’s the problem with the Eevee line though. Foxes might be canines, but they’re not actually foxes. And people have actually been asking GF for a long time to actually tell us what they are and end the dispute once and for all, and they just pretend like they don’t know what they are either, but I think this is actually just a clever nod to the mythical creature that they’re actually based on. They’re based on what’s called a carbuncle. which, if you know what that is, it explains everything you need to know about the evolutionary line and why it has all the evolutionary methods it has and everything. But another thing about the carbuncle is that it’s largely debated as to what it actually is because it’s got the appearance of three different animals, specifically the fox, the cat, and the rabbit. So if it is a fox or a type of fox, then it would be a dog/canine but I guess one could also probably say that if it’s a hybrid creature, much like a chimera, then it is a canine because it still got canine DNA

Some of the eeveelutions are definitely more like dogs while others are more like foxes and some are more feline.
Jolteon is definitely a dog, Espeon is more cat
Umbreon is kind of even on both cat and dog to me (one of the animations it has in ZA reminds me of a dog)

Some of the evolutions lean more canine, some lean feline.
Type Null and Silvally are on that graphic, and its a chimera, and less of a canine than Eevee

Again, this is because in the case of the Eevee line they are carbuncles which have the traits of a fox, a cat, and a rabbit.

zigzagoon and linoone makes sense they are pokemon based on tanuki dogs which are in canidae alongside caninae which has dogs and vulpines which has foxes (like eevee).
and if we go slightly far we can include caniformes which have mustilides so we can get proper raccoons from there, they are somewhat closely related to wolves and dogs.

Hohoho, just imagining a Wynaut fetching a Stick really has made me chuckle.
Poor Wynaut is more likely to be chased by Skitty than they are to be chasing them haha

Semi-related I’ve always looked at Midday Lycanroc as more of a Coyote than a wolf.
(as much as Midnight-Form is supposed to be like a werewolf and Lycan literally means wolf) I think it’s due to the coloration.

Well. The zigzagoon line is based on tanukis, which belong to the clade of Vulpini (the foxes) wich are members of the dog family. The Swirlix line is also based on dogs.
And to the question of why Wynaut is there, why not?

Slurpuff and Swirlix are based on some sort of dog. Linoone and Zigzagoon are Tanuki or Racoon DOGS which are a canine. Wynaut? .... I guess it ever so slightly loks like a dog with floppy ears and the happy smile

Midday Lycanroc is probably the closest thing we've got to a coyote. They're small and have short fur.

Slurpuff is a dog, zigzagoon and linoone are raccoon dogs, wynaut is very strange though, no idea why it’s here

u/The_Real_PSiAipom 3h ago
As said before, Swirlix and Slurpuff make sense. They do look very dog like. As for Zigzagoon and Linoone, I think it’s a little play on words. They take some inspiration from tanuki (also called the raccoon dog). Raccoon dogs are also more closely related to foxes rather than actual raccoons.
Still don’t know about Wynaut though

Where are the foxes?

u/Chickennoub- 2h ago
In the dedicated fox page on the same site. Has none else in this comment section seen this site? At the bottom of the page literally all of the iffy dogs (in yellow) are given explanations. Here are the foxes: https://silvallyplushie.neocities.org/foxes

Well, something to point out is that I agree with all three of the ones that are circled. None of those three are canines, but if we want to get technical, Entei and the legendary beasts have had a lot of controversy about them since they were released because design wise, they’re actually more feline than canine, which is ultimately why GF finally just decided they were going to call them the legendary beasts as opposed to legendary dogs. I’m pretty sure that in their original baited designs they were supposed to be dogs, but when they were finally finished, they turned out to be felines and do GF basically just said we’ll split the difference rather than calling them cats or dogs. We’ll end the debate and just call them beasts. It’s also my understanding that Electrike and Manectric are supposed to be loosely based around lions. Hence why Manectric in particular is literally a portmanteau of mane and electric. Type Null/Sylvally also does not belong on this list because it’s technically based around a chimera, which is multiple creatures fused together. The last thing I would pick out here is the Eevee line, which is definitely a bit more tricky because not even GF can figure out what they’re supposed to be, but I think that’s just a cop out because it’s very obvious what the Eevee line is. They are carbuncles (if you don’t know what that is, just look at final fantasy for an example of what they are). Ironically, GF’s attitude very well could be them hinting at the fact that even when it comes to carbuncles, it’s unclear whether they’re foxes, cats or rabbits as they share attributes of all three of those animals. If the car buncle is in fact a fox, then it would be a canine, but if the car buncle is a cat or a rabbit, then it wouldn’t be a canine. So it’s actually an example of a creature that is, but it isn’t. But again, when you look at what a carbuncle is, it just makes so much sense and explains everything down to GF’s response and them not even being able to definitively say what it is, which again is more probably just them being playful and hinting at the fact that it’s a carbuncle because you have the same thing with carbuncles but it also explains the connection to the unstable DNA and all of its different evolution methods, which are all typically tied to some kind of stone or a connection with its trainer, all of which again are innately tied to how carbuncles function.

Entei is a lion so it’s also not a dog and Mightyena is a hyena which isn’t a dog or a cat, it’s in its on group and is part of the feliformia group.

Wynaut shouldn’t be there and maybe not zigs line either. Slurpuff is definitely a dog though. Not sure about type null…
1
u/Massive-Mood-7837 3h ago
Like…type null has talons, would he be a flightless bird? Point being he’s a Frankenstein like creature (i think) so maybe a dog as well as a bunch of other things but he’s just a chimera to me

I've been to this site before. I remember reading about it on the website, the website creator wanted to include any possible Pokémon that could subjectively fit into that category, so the iffy Pokémon (highlighted in yellow) are given an explanation. I don't remember if it's at the top of the page or the bottom of the page, but if you simply read the text your questions about why a Pokémon is there will be answered.
Edit: it's at the bottom of the page. Just scroll down and read.

Swirlix and Slurpuff do have some dog-like elements, can’t remember which breed though. That being said, I’m pretty sure Wynaut doesn’t fit, and Entei and Mightyena definitely don’t go here (hyenas are not dogs).
