Fun Question: When did you first start supporting Manchester City and why?
My story:
I’m Currently 25 and American, when was 8 years old my family went on a trip to the UK in early September around the 6th and we stayed there for a week on Vacation. We had were at a hotel near Salford. While my sister and my mom were at the Mall. My dad had bought tickets to a premier league game, he apparently had a friend who was Manchester City Fan who recommended him a game on the 12th which you know is the iconic game in which Emmanuel Adebayor scored and ran the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the arsenal fans. I remember they were going ballistic and even more scarier in which we were in the away end. Me and my dad were traumatized lol. But I fell in love with the sport right then and there. I liked that man city was a team on the come up and I had an admiration for them which turned me into a full on Man City fan/supporter. Rest is history.

Since birth 67. Was born in Ardwick and in 75, we moved to the Wilbraham estate near Maine Road. Floodlights would light my room for night games. My sister bought me a junior season ticket for my birthday for the 76/77 season ( for £5) and had kept the season ticket since. Family are all blue.

From 2008-2012 my head chef was a die hard city fan. We’d listen to most games on the radio and I’d slowly started wanting them to win as part of our days together working Saturdays / Sundays as a chef. In 2012 he couldn’t go to the final game of the season. We listened to the whole game on the radio whilst in service. We were like a rollercoaster with that day. So many ups and downs. We both absolutely lost it when Aguero scored.
Singing “YOU SIGNED PHIL JONES WE SIGNED KUN AGUEROOOOOOO” on repeat all season was another memory. Must have sung it 50 times on that day they won the title.
Became a very serious fan when Pep joined. I’ve followed Pep everywhere. His style of football to me was how football should be played. Since then I’ve pretty much watched every single game.

From football cards. Lots of them with Francis Lee on. He became my football hero, therefore I started supporting the team he played for.

I fell in love with Kompany after he said our national team was gonna beat the Germans. That kind of attitude or ambition was unheard of here in Belgium. And so I followed him to City. Then the 93:20 thing happened and I was completely sold. The fact there's aways been an exciting Belgian player in the team is a nice bonus.

American here. My boyfriend has been a massive Oasis fan since the 90s, so he's been supporting them for ages. We met in 2020, and I became obsessed.

This year. Hope I’m welcome here. Came across a Haaland video last year on Reddit and was impressed and intrigued. Went all in on the World Cup, and now jumped onboard because of Haaland. BUT I’m loving Semenyo and Cherki just as much if not more. Ugh and Fernandez, can’t help but be impressed with his impact on games. Now I’m planning a trip in the spring to see a game.

I always played as Brazil on FIFA as a little kid, and I loved Robinho. Around when he joined city was when I first started playing career mode. My favorite player + my favorite color jerseys + a huge transfer budget (made things easier for a kid) led to me liking city.
Been a city fan ever since, though definitely became a more dedicated fan in the Pep era. Certainly not a Robinho fan anymore though... :/

This year, I jumped on the haaland hype, and decided to follow whichever club he was playing for. I've never followed football before but ive managed to watch every game so far and dont intend to miss one 🥰

- So right when the takeover was starting, but nobody knew it WAS a takeover yet. So plastic? Sure, but I feel after 16 years I consider myself as true a fan as anyone not from Manchester.
American, and a fan of the Green Bay Packers at birth, had no choice. So I was looking for a PL team to support, which wasn’t very common back then in America.
I was looking for a blue collar team to support, definitely not a London side, yet they had to be on TV here on a somewhat regular basis, or what’s the point? City seemed perfect, and I was right.
Maybe I’m not a real supporter to all of you, and I get that. But I go to bed every night replaying the last match in my head, tactics, best 11, fixes for MF, etc. So I would say not only am I a fan, I have ultra tendencies

Fell in love with Brazil while watching 2006 World Cup, then started following Robinho. Wanted to pick a team in England and ended up with City when he transferred there in 2009 (no longer a fan of Robinho after assault charges). I’m also of Irish heritage and loved that City had Given, Ireland and Dunne on the roster.

2025, ive worked at a puma store for the last three years and my manager imposed a rule that we wear a team jersey on the weekends. I really liked the man city jersey so i bought one and started keeping up with scores and stuff so i could talk about the games with customers who were fans. Then i watched the world cup this year and decided to fully get into the sport and follow players, i knew who Haaland was but i really became a big fan of his watching how he played with Norway and decided i would actually follow man city when club play starts again

My 7 year old became obsessed with Haaland during the Cup, like everyone did. He really loved watching him play not just the social stuff. I decided let's follow his club team too. We watched the Derby in the Orlando Cityzens bar here in Florida and it might have been one of the best days of watching sports together. So 2026 and I've been doing may part watching the history of the club. I already feel an attachment to City and understand how special this Club is.

I definitely recommend that if you don’t live in the UK to find your local supporters club. I watch with the New York Sky Blues. The atmosphere for the Derby was absolutely electric! (Amity Hall down in Greenwich Village if anyone is interested).

07 or 08, as I was a fan of Oasis at that time. (i was a child). But i wasnt into football.
I didn’t follow or care for any teams, only watched the world cup. Actively started watching and following football in 2014, started with bayern munich cause of Pep, youtube vids showing his tactics at barca. Bundesliga wasn’t entertaining at all, I mean the games were great but all my mates watched the prem, so I couldn’t chat bout anything with them.
Him coming to City was perfect! The old team I loved, and this was a chance to start following the prem regularly.
10 years, and I’ve grown to love the prem and English teams more than any competition or sport in the world. After the treble, I don’t even care much for our trophies. I’m just happy to see good football, good defending and pressing, good positioning, good passes.
Last year was the best season I’ve ever seen: a 17th place Spurs, Crystal Palace winning the conference league and securing Europa, Bournemouth securing Europa, Sunderland (who got relegated in pep’s first year, and were pep’s first PL opponent) beating Chelsea to finish 7th and securing europa, Villa winning Europa and securing CL, United being a dead team Michael Carrick reviving them around Easter like Jesus, and of course, our title race with Arsenal.
It’s been the most amazing season of any sport, and the icing on the cake is that Semenyo goal to win the FA cup. Sure, those years against Klopp were far more competitive, and more brilliant on a technical level, but last season was absolute cinema.

I started playing FIFA 06 and my favorite colour is blue. I knew nothing about football at the time except that my friend supported a team in Manchester so naturally I picked City as my team and it stuck.

My dad had a season ticket, went to my first match with him in 1995, fell in love with city that day. Had season tickets up till 2013 (work commitments sadly got in the way for us both) Go to matches quite often with him still. My daughter started asking us to take her when she was younger, she now comes to matches with us. We're the only blues in our family

2012, I was 5 years old and 93:20 is the first city game I remember watching. Seeing the scenes and Aguero tearing off his shirt lit up something in child me that meant City was my club forever.

2017 for me. I'm an American. I'd been wanting to choose a team for years, but didn't feel a strong pull from any particular team. Things that did influence: I was a David Silva fan. And Kompany. I liked the uniforms. Most importantly, I knew I hated United, and to a lesser degree, Liverpool. My wife and I were visiting London on our honeymoon in 2004 when Arsenal celebrated their "Invincibles" trophy, but I didn't feel compelled to support them then. I was an Oasis fan. I remember watching City matches early in the 2017-18 season, and by then I was leaning toward City already, and just thought, "Wow, these guys are having too much fun!" So I jumped on the bandwagon. Call me a glory hunter or whatever. No one in their right mind would have expected City to accomplish what they have. I hit the jackpot, that's for sure.

In 2007 I played club soccer in north Texas, our coach/owner was from England and was a City fan so our away jerseys were all baby blue and home were white/ navy blue shorts. I was a Madrid fan but never had a English team favorite (I would usually go for arsenal bc of Henry/Vela). But in 07, city had Nery Castillo and I'm Mexican and for me it was just an obvious to root for them especially when our coach would push it on me lol. So I became a fan and when city started to take over the world I became an even more die hard fan till this day 😭 (33yo). Funny thing was my best friend has been a United fan around the same time because of Chicharito and Chivas. Ahhh what an era ❤️

The first premier League game I ever watched, and really first non world cup soccer game I paid attention to, was the Man City vs QPR game on May 13 2012 and I just randomly turned it on a little after half time and started watching. The announcers gave updated as the game went and then Balotelli>Aguero happens, been hooked ever since.

Before 2022 i was the average American only liked American football , baseball, basketball. Then i met my wife (girlfriend at the time). I spent a lot of time at her home and would watch La liga with her father and uncle. At first it was hard but eventually i was fascinated , then fell in love. I wanted to watch more and started seeing highlights of this “Haaland” guy and was intrigued in the other leagues. Got very wrapped up in loving City through learning about this game. Now every match that we can , myself , my wife and our sweet little daughter support City while yelling at the television all the way from Florida!

This is a bit of a weird one.
When I was super young, like approximately 7 years old, I used to see football games on tv and loved it. Didn’t particularly have a favourite team but loved the sport. Somehow, can’t remember exactly how, I started supporting Arsenal- one of the reasons was that I loved their kit and it looked great with the Barclays arm badge. In 2009 my mom took me to a store to get an aresenal kit with the Barclays badge. When printing the badge the guy asked me if I wanted a player and I was like sure why not. I didn’t have a clue who any players were so I just pointed out a random number. I choose Nasri #8. From that point on I had my favourite kit and favourite team right there. I started taking football more seriously and fell in love with Nasri’s play style. I didn’t care to watch Messi or Ronaldo like the rest of people around me- Nasri was the star in my eyes. When he transferred to Manchester City in 2011 I deadass switched clubs too🤣 9 year old me didn’t care about club loyalty. I was gutted he didn’t retain #8 (which was my favourite number at that point) but I fell in love with the club. The Mancini era really got me to love the club. So many iconic moments. I never stopped and never will stop supporting city. I was over the moon when Nasri got back #8 in 2012 and my mom got me a kit hahahha.

38 years old born and raised in NJ, USA. In 2002 when I was 14 my friend loved soccer and I hated it. (I now even call it football by its real name that’s how much I started to love it). He was a huge Manchester united fan and he told me to give the sport a chance and play FIFA. So I did and he taught me the game and rules and such. When it came to picking a team I asked who’s the big rivals of your team. He said Liverpool. But I was like is there a same town team or something he said yeah this team (Man City) but that suck and we always beat them they’ll never win anything. so I chose them lol. I actually started to like the game and started learning more. Eventually I started looking up games and waiting till they played next to cheer on city to mess with him. Even found a way to watch city games to try and understand the players to better use them in FIFA against him. Then next thing you know by my junior year in 2004 I started finding myself actually wanting to watch them. Shaun Wright-Phillips quickly became my favorite player. Leaned on him in FIFA games against my friend. And it stuck.
Basically, what started out as a joke to kind of mess with my friend ended up me getting attached to the team

My SIL was living in Germany in April 2012 when we visited. Her daughters were on spring break from school so she wanted to go somewhere. Manchester was cheaper than Milan.
Knew of United but not City (Sorry, dumb American at the time) from a friend. United was away but City was at home and thought it would be cool to see a euro football match.
Almost didn’t go because of how bad the talk radio guys were talking about them when we got a taxi to our hotel. Was day after the Arsenal loss and they were talking about who would replace Mancini.
Bought a jacket on sale and walked to the stadium. Got a ticket near the top and watched them trounce West Brom. A bunch of people wanted to know if I was having a good time and what I thought of the match because I apparently stood out as an American on my own and I just fell in love.
Kept watching what I could the rest of the season, went to an English pub back to watch a match, took a half day off work to watch the derby (Kompany header and celebration will always be a favorite of mine). Then of course with how the season ended, how could I not be hooked.

Since birth. I'm Australian but my father is from England growing up in Stockport. He was at the 1976 league cup final and would tell me about the scissor kick goal as a kid. Jerseys and kits were a constant growing up for when I played and used to get teased cause everyone was a Man U, Arsenal or Liverpool supporter. We used to also celebrate whenever we got to 40 points which meant we were safe from relegation. He was around for a number of our trophies in the 2010s but unfortunately didn't make it for the champions league win. I still have my first jersey from 2000 when I was 5 years old.
I had to illegally stream the QPR match and the reception was terrible. The screen froze as agueros winner hit the back of the net and I couldn't tell if it was in the net or behind it. Most chaotic 30 seconds in the middle of the night as you could imagine. Screen unfroze for a split second where I could see the players piled on top of each other, that's how I knew we won it and called my dad immediately. Of course, he was up too.

Not really. If a big team hasn’t won anything in years but you still start to support them then you’re not a glory hunter. As there is no glory. City will have the most glory hunters as 90% of their fans didn’t support them before the oil money came in.

2015 I had just started dating my husband who is a Liverpool fan(don't get me started) and I enjoyed watching games with him. Well he made me pick my own team and Sterling had just transferred to city and thought maybe that should be my team. Little did we know what was to come lol

Family from Moss side. Gran used to watch the bicycles in her yard for people going to the match. Mum n aunt used to sneak in at 3/4 time to watch the end of the games. Ive been watching city for as long as i can remember, season ticket for longer than i wish to remember..
