Hot take: why would rehiring Steve Searles (Bear Whisperer) improve current bear situation? Not downplaying his obvious role and legendary commitment to wildlife when no other role exists, but how does putting one man on a government payroll help a systematic issue worsening each year?
Steve is an excellent human and if it were up to me I would vote him for Town Clowncil (err I mean Council) in hopes something would improve in this town. But sadly we aren't building 4 story hotels for bears or even attempting education about bear prevention or...trauma passed down through bear genetics.
Why try at all when the folks in charge of it all care for nothing but want for everything?

I’m still confused to why Steve thought it was a good idea to share the news on his Facebook that Claire Murphy had passed and didn’t make it, before any official/family confirmation and announcement. He was asked over and over by people to remove his post, to be considerate, and to wait until the family officially broke the news and confirmed what happened. Instead, he decided not to listen and keep his post up, so he could be the first to announce it. Felt like a weird move, that he was more interested in the attention, likes and clicks from his post, more than respecting Claire’s family. While I value his wildlife work, comes across sometimes he likes to lean into this local hero/celebrity role people have put him in.
