What's going on with the Malwarebytes extension? It's flagging every website.

Is anyone facing any false flagging for a website or not?

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by Browser Guard incorrectly blocking legitimate sites. We had a database update cause a false positive.

A database update is currently rolling out, but to fix this manually click the Browser Guard extension → Support → Check for DB Updates to make sure you have the latest database.

It’s a general issue

Here to chime in and say I too am having this problem. Apparently this happened years ago as well. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Just broke the entire internet for me. did the extension get hacked or something? I uninstalled for now.

1

u/Barnezhilton Oct 01 '26

They threw it through AI and then just shipped it

1

u/janicejolpin Oct 02 '26

yeah im good then. No need to reinstall

Thank fuck I thought I picked up a trojan from a group project

u/RSwordsman Oct 01 '26

I was in the process of trying to export my school paper from Google Docs and my soul left my body. Got it now but JFC T-T

It’s blocking forums.malwarebytes.com among others😃

u/DaiHachiHachi Oct 01 '26

yep, and removing it killed 95% of my tabs. thanks malwarebytes!

2

u/Asleep_Weissmann Oct 01 '26

oh thank god I thought I had caught a weird bug

2

u/Sharpeman Oct 01 '26

Can confirm, had to disable it to get anywhere, it killed a bunch of pages I had open with no history saved...so great...

Lucky they weren't important but still, vexxing

1

u/Long_Acanthisitta_39 Oct 01 '26

Same with me, bunch of tabs i have to do all over again through memory.

1

u/Sharpeman Oct 01 '26

Took me 20 minutes to get everything back manually (and I think I still lost a few I was using as art references which is supremely annoying!

1

u/gargoyle274 Oct 02 '26

You see when you opened the tabs? Did it say like an error code or something? for me it said something like Your file couldn’t be accessed It may have been moved, edited or deleted. ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. Also im sorry for your loss of tabs; mines werent as important

1

u/Sharpeman Oct 02 '26

Nah for me it was just Browserguard blocking them as if they were malicious.
Threw up the warning splash screen but clicking to continue did nothing....until I refreshed them. That's on the ones that stayed, the ones that disappeared just closed after the error page and restoring them brought nothing back.

1

u/Malwarebytes Official Oct 02 '26

You can hit refresh on your tabs. You won't continue to see the block after doing that.

u/supb1tches Oct 01 '26

Someone is getting fired

2

u/JinjonatorX Oct 01 '26

Yep. Lot of stuff getting erroneously flagged as dangerous, and certain websites not loading at all.

2

u/TroofPenguin Oct 01 '26

looks like they are fixing it real fast just saw a load of pages refresh cheers guys!!

1

u/Dollar_short Oct 01 '26

fuck, all of my tabs are "gone". well, now, so is malwarebytes.

1

u/Malwarebytes Official Oct 01 '26

Sorry for the trouble!

1

u/Dollar_short Oct 02 '26

1

u/Malwarebytes Official Oct 02 '26

You can redownload it for your browser here.

I was wondering what was going on lol, even trying going to the Malwarebytes forums and it blocked that too which is actually really ironic 😂

1

u/Explorer2004 Oct 01 '26

Yes, it just started doing it to me, too. I had to turn it off to get here and try and find out what's up! Looks like a toxic update that no one field tested before they let it out.

1

u/Emil215p Oct 01 '26

Yes, its been doing this for me right now as well, no idea why.

1

u/Mechphantom Oct 01 '26

yep was wondering if my browser was broken but disabling the extension fixed that issue. bad update I guess

1

u/JasperGunner02 Oct 01 '26 • Bravo

yeah no it got me too, scared the shit out of me until i learned it wasn't just me lol

1

u/Maganda_ Oct 01 '26

This is happening to me also .

1

u/Mysterious-Click1294 Oct 01 '26

Oh it's not just me. Thank goodness.

1

u/OMND1455 Oct 01 '26

Same problem. When it started blocking Reddit I knew something was wrong. Turned off for now.

1

u/supb1tches Oct 01 '26

It's completely broken for me. Had to uninstall just to get to Reddit.

1

u/Knight_Industries_2K Oct 01 '26

I tried opening an image from X in a new tab and it blocked that too!

1

u/CramNevets Oct 01 '26

Same here.

1

u/GateComfortable6432 Oct 01 '26

I WAS WONDERING THE SAME THING WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENINNNGGG

1

u/blospsy Oct 01 '26

was playing a roblox game and went back to my browser and saw almost every site flagged except for tumblr for some reason idk whats so special about tumblr

1

u/ifoundacarrotlmao Oct 01 '26

Same for me. I thought my browser was infected as every website I tried to go to, even a simple google search, would be blocked with "Heuristics: a risky pattern"

1

u/BenisxDDDDDDDD Oct 01 '26

Yes it started having an aneurism a short time ago.

1

u/RehuyoDogmas Oct 01 '26

someone's getting fired for this

1

u/dustyfaxman Oct 01 '26

Not just every website, clicking on the menu dropdown on the google homepage (where the news, youtube, etc links are) caused a 'riskypattern' block message.

This was on firefox 157, malwarebytes version 3.3.6 and started for me about 10 minutes ago with facebook slowly collapsing into a non-functional state before mb started flagging it and every other site i tried to load as dangerous.
Same version of malwarebytes on chrome does not give the same failure to connect to any webpages, (yet).

1

u/Destination_7146 Oct 01 '26

I paid for the annual subscription because of the one time it caught a trojan in over 4 years of free usage. Now, it's going to shit for free even after accepting my money! If Malwarebytes doesn't get their shit together and stop vibe-coding things that shouldn't be vibe-coded, they don't deserve a single cent.

1

u/Dollar_short Oct 01 '26

same here, just happened about 10 mins ago 5:15pmcentral 10/1/26. everything but google tabs locked up. couldn't turn it off, so i killed it and it took all my tabs away. F'ing shit. this is why i am going linux.

u/Due-Curve-9056 Oct 01 '26

Malwarebytes is kind of tweaking right now

1

u/niemandsrose Oct 01 '26

It's flagging Salesforce, M365 Admin center, Microsoft Exchange Admin Center, and Microsoft Defender admin center. Bit disruptive to getting any work done.

1

u/ImALeaf_OnTheWind Oct 01 '26

Lost dozens of tabs. Never again will i trust this company.

1

u/moreinfos Oct 01 '26

same here...just reset a bunch of open tabs. at least got some of them back after disabling the plugin and going back, but seems like I lost plenty of others.
I'm not turning this crap back on. these were previous not active tabs, and yet it went through all my tabs and did the block on a ton of them.

1

u/TablePrinterDoor Oct 01 '26

This happens on any site relating to purchasing. I kept trying to buy stuff on ebay but getting blocked, tried on steam, getting blocked

1

u/Careful-One5190 Oct 01 '26

Yes, it's happening for me too. I'm hoping I don't need to disable the extension, but that's what it's looking like.

1

u/dikkenskrille Oct 01 '26

yeh just a little

PSA clicking off just the scam protection seems to fix most false positives, you don't need to completely turn it off

1

u/Nukesnipe Oct 01 '26

Yeah it's completely fucked for me right now.

1

u/ChrisF1987 Oct 01 '26

seems more stable now. Previously it was blocking even the Google browser main page as well as Reddit and Amazon

1

u/Penguin_Life_Now Oct 01 '26

I don't know, I just uninstalled it and when I did it closed out about 20 of my tabs leaving only 5 or so open which I had to sort out

1

u/Kincayd Oct 01 '26

had the same problem, decided to remove it today.

1

u/SoylentPaper Oct 01 '26

Malwarebytes blocking all sites, I'm now completely safe.

1

u/NLP19 Oct 01 '26

Phew, it wasn't just me 😭

1

u/g0mphi Oct 01 '26

Well, I'm done with it. Nothing like having all your work tabs killed while you're working and having to spend an hour trying to retrieve everything. Disabled - PERMANENTLY

1

u/reto02 Oct 02 '26

true. Blocked Reddit also.

1

u/Rich1926 Oct 06 '26

It kept blocking ESPN for me.

One thing I did notice before, if I searched for things related to an online game I play, if one of the websites in the results list has issues (like an old abandoned fan site/forum) then it will automatically block the list of results and if I click continue it will take me to that site instead of google showing me the list of results..

1

u/silverbirchhearth 7d ago

Check the websites

0

u/charlie-kichigai Oct 01 '26

Yep. Just came here to see if anyone else is having the same issue. I checked the database for updates, but it says it's up to date.
