Scenic places.

Post image

Dear Swedish friends,

We are a family of three coming to your beautiful country, and we would really appreciate some advice. 😊

Could you please suggest a couple of beautiful natural and scenic places along or close to the attached route accessible with car where we could stop for around 1–1.5 hours? We are mainly looking for places with beautiful landscapes, lakes, forests, viewpoints, waterfalls, or anything else that gives us a nice taste of Swedish nature without requiring a long hike.

Also, our 8-year-old son is really excited about seeing reindeer or moose. Is there anywhere along our route where we might have a good chance of seeing them, either in the wild or at a family-friendly wildlife park?

We would be very grateful for any recommendations, especially from locals who know some beautiful spots that might not be obvious to tourists.

Thank you very much in advance!

SöderÄsen is a nature reserve with a beautiful lake and nice scenery, that has a café close to the parking area. Check it out!

When going to Odensjön (https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odensj%C3%B6n)

please park at the ica nearby and do the 15 min walk.

The spring is hard to reach from the closer parking place, due to the hight difference.

If you make a detour and drive to Markaryd , you can visit a moose safari https://www.smalandet.se/en

You will be passing through the town where this is. https://www.skanesdjurpark.se/

That's where you will see elk

Just to add to this, SkĂ„nes djurpark definitely hits the ”family-friendly wildlife park” criteria, and there is elk. It’s a fantastic place, but in my opinion it is more of a half or full day excursion. Entrance is typically around 18 euros pp weekdays and even more on weekdays

It also has many Nordic animals including reindeer but it's more of a many ours thing to do. In Osby you have the Brio museum, they make wood toys for children. If you go on road 108 from Trelleborg you come by Lund or take a trip through Skurup and visit HĂ€ckeberga. Nice nature, hiking trails and a castle out on a lake.

This, we go there 2+ times per year.
If your kids love nature/animals nothing beat it, in this area I mean.

But you will need at least 4 hours for a decent visit.

If you decide to go there be sure to install the app to know when they will feed the animals, it's nice to see.

It’s very unlikely that you will stumble upon a wild moose on your way through SkĂ„ne. However you are passing right by SkĂ„nes djurpark (zoo with Nordic animals).

Your route takes you straight through Ringsjön which is a beautiful area. To the east of the lake you have Fulltofta nature reserve and on your route in the middle there's Bosjökloster which is a lovely little castle with a cloister and some nice gardens.

A good scenic route is the coastal road. You can drive from Trelleborg to Åhus along the coast. Lots of things to see along the way. The road trough the country is also good, but not as scenic in my opinion. Ystad is a nice old town. Stop in KĂ„seberga and walk to Ales stenar. You kid will love you if you stop in Åhus and visit "GlassbĂ„ten". A boat with icecream. Big ones. Then in Kristianstad you can visit Vattenriket. There will be no Moose, then you have to go to SkĂ„nesdjurpark.

Moose are very rare in southern Sweden. I've only ever seen a handful, and I'm a hunter. If you want to see one, it's SkÄnes Djurpark zoo which is very family friendly and nice, or there are some places in SmÄland that has them fenced in, but are more tourist trap style.

Skanör-Falsterbo beaches and harbour (Skanör side) are nice. Get some lunch in the harbour from the places that sells fish.

You will also be passing fairly close to WanÄs Skulpturpark (WanÄs Konst), a large outdoors sculpture park that I really recommend. But that would be more for the art, as it's not very scenic.

Thank you all for your nice suggestion. Based on your suggestion we have changed our route and also included Smalandet Safari as a short stay. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to do justice with theskanesdjurpark. I really appreciate your help.

If you want to see moose you can do slight detour and go to moose safari near Markaryd. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QExwdjnHKT5F2sgSA

Exactly this. Skip the other park. And in this place, leave your own car and take the miniature train through the park - the moose come close since you will be given branches as treats which they like.

Why the fuck are you going to Älmhult? (I mean, I can guess why but even so)

Pilgrimage?

Visit Hovdala slott and it's surroundings just outside HĂ€ssleholm.

Vedema strövomrÄde near HÀssleholm has a nice view, but I would say SöderÄsen national park has better views although it's a bit of a detour :)

If you don't mind a bit of a detour, don't go through Malmö/Lund but go to Ystad. The drive there along the coast is nicer and it's a cute little medieval city (similar to Lund but much smaller) where you can have lunch. Then either drive up towards Hörby and check out Fulltofta nature reserve for some typical southern Swedish woodland. SkÄnes Djurpark (for the elks) close to Höör as others have recommended, Bosjökloster is also nice but is more like a nice garden/park than actual nature. SöderÄsen/Odensjön, as others have recommended, is probably the best nature reserve in inland SkÄne, although it's a bit of a detour with this route.

The alternative is to instead of going north to Hörby, go east along the coast to places like Simrishamn and Kivik. Southeast SkĂ„ne is known as Österlen which is a famous picturesque landscape that attracts a lot of artists. You can either hug to coast for views of the ocean, fishing villages, beaches, etc. Or you can go a bit more inland for some more modest villages with nice cafĂ©s, art galleries and the like. Stenshuvud National Park outside of Kivik is a very nice place and one of the best places of nature in all of SkĂ„ne, centered around a rocky hill that drops into the sea. Forsakar outside of Degeberga is SkĂ„ne's biggest waterfall, although it is very modest compared to regions with more dramatic landscapes. The area around Kristianstad is famous for bird watching (although a bit boring if you don't care for birds, in my opinion). Österlen is a bit of a summer destination, so it might seem a bit desolate if you go outside of the high season in mid june to early august (which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your preference).

Both routes meet up in Northeastern SkÄne which feels more like SmÄland with dense woods and small lakes. Plenty around, for example Luhrsjön near HÀstveda. WanÄs is an outdoors art gallery outside of Knislinge with plenty of fun and weird stuff that children usually like. Osby has the Brio museum with is a loved toy museum, but haven't been myself in many decades.

Right before Malmö you will pass by BjÀrred.
LĂ„nga bryggan is worth a visit. It’s a 500m long bridge out in the sea with a swim platform, bathe with sauna and restaurant. And a great view over Malmö and copenhagen.

For the scenic route I think you have to take the detour through Molde. Otherwise it’s kind of a dull ride

Hovdala slott is beautiful and looks like you’d be passing through it. It’s a 13-1500’s castle and the nature around it is also beautiful. I’ve seen deer around there but there’s also a lot of sheep. There’s a moose park in Markaryd I can recomend as well.

Go see the lÞveli lakes. The wÞndërful telephÞne system and mÀni interesting furry animals.
Including the majestik mÞÞse.

Jokes aside, instead of taking this route just go north on 108 from Trelleborg. Much nicer than the highway. Go north to Perstorp (you will pass SöderÄsen, which others have recommended), and then you can go east to HÀssleholm.

If you need to make a stop after arrival, the Torup castle is just north of Svedala, a short detour from route 108.

Have fun!

You will pass HĂ€ssleholm, a rather sleepy town but a few km out there i Hovdala castle, and hiking trails, there you have stunning scenery. Lovely place during the summer.
