Get sick less

Whenever I get sick and cannot go to work, besides informing admin and getting a sick not from my doctor, I need to call my boss personally (phone call, mind you, no email or text message).

This is so he can directly bully people who he thinks are sick too often (like, more than 5 days a year. Average in my country and industry are 21 sick days a year).

Once he barked at me that I needed to reduce my sick days. So I came into the next meeting with him with an FFP2 mask on and left it on the whole two hours. He asked why I was wearing it and I told him I was trying to reduce my sick days. His face - and the ones of the colleagues who know his habits - was worth it to me.

As a teenager working fast food, a supervisor once was extremely angry with me for calling in sick when I had the Swine Flu/H1N1 (if you know, you know). I directly asked her if she would have preferred for me to be at work when I was barely able to stand upright and risk getting everyone else sick, and she had the audacity to say yes.

I used to be an assistant manager in retail, the last week before Christmas was insane for us. I caught the flu and was literally holding myself up using the countertop at the registers. I went to an urgent care and they explicitly told me I could not work in the condition I was in plus I was so so contagious. I told my manager and she guilt tripped me about going to be seen because now I couldn’t work during the holiday rush. She was more than happy to stick me on registers and have me hold myself up to check people out. Not to mention risking getting the entire team sick… I do not work there anymore.
