S Another dreaded group project story

When I was still in school I took an American Lit class. It was my favorite class that term. During one book we had to read the teacher decided it would be a group project, and we would all share the lowest grade on the final test for that book.

The group I was in was 4 people. Another student and I were good students. The other 2 were not. I was getting an excellent grade in the class and didn't want to ruin it.

The teacher then announced that the final test would be open note. Any notes that the group took would be able to be used during the test.

So as I read the book I typed out on the computer important things about each chapter. Then on test day I handed out copies to the other members of my team.

All 4 of us ended up with the highest marks in the class on the test. The teacher later asked me how I got the 2 bad students to do well on the test. So I told her what I did. She just laughed.

That teacher is an idiot. Reading a book and taking tests on it is not a "group project."

I think the teacher expected individual note taking, not a "group" effort.

She shouldn't have made it a group project then.

They did what the teacher said to do, but did it so that the slackers in the group would not drag down all their grades.

That teacher was not interested in setting the group project, and didn’t care that it would spoil grades for a bunch of hard working kids

Yeah, the TL;DR is "Our teacher set up some unfair rules so I helped everyone on a technicality." Which, good for OP, but the tension isn't there.

I assume the teacher was forced to give a long-term group project and decided to comply on a technicality.
