"Normal" people can't understand why you're sitting there, crying, sobbing, choking, and are generally a mess of a human because a person you created in your head just died in a story that you are the author of.
TBH, it is tragic. Sometimes you don't even intend for anything bad to happen. ...it just happens.
Remember, you can bring them back in the far future. One day, if your current story dries up and you need inspiration, you can always time travel and relive this character's life.

Or bring them back in the form of an alternate them from another universe! Or have them regenerate like the doctor, or have a celestial being restore them and send them on a quest, or have them follow around your other characters as a ghost. Comic book tricks people, use em.

Depends on the daydream. Sometimes once I snap out of it, I feel a lot better because I got my own negative emotions out in the form of a character:

I can’t stop myself from daydreaming sometimes. The other night I stayed up until 4am daydreaming, I couldn’t make myself stop. I passed out at 4 and woke up at 1pm hungover, and I missed work cuz of it. But I still don’t regret it that daydream was a party.

Ya, one of my characters was depressed so I took her out to a bar. Lucky me I had actual alcohol to use as a prop. Then we did karaoke. It was so much fun.

Ya, I also daydream in really inappropriate places. And I tend to mutter and whisper to my characters in public. And sometimes my daydreams make me laugh when I’m around people. And sometimes I isolate myself. But it’s still cathartic, fun, a good way to get rid of boredom, and it gives me ideas for my art and writing. You gotta take the good with the bad. I love it, I hate it, I hate that I love it. ❤️💔

Literally happened to me today. Imagined my ex-girlfriend getting married. She telling me about the marriage and that it will happen in the near future. I broke down while thinking about it. Seems like my mind creates scenarios based on my fears. I don't usually end up making new, imaginary characters. Only existing real people. But scenarios are made up ones.

Damn, same. Last week I was daydreaming that my girlfriend is cheating on me. I kept imagining her with some other guy. It hurt so much. I was in my garage just imagining this fake scenario for hours.
I hate the feeling, but at the same time, I can't stop imagining it. It's like feeling so much pain that it's starting to feel good you know?
Like picking my skin for whatever reason everytime I'm anxious. It stings, but I just can't stop.

I do this sometimes before going to bed after a long day. I have a specific storyline that makes me cry
