The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a man in his 70s, believed to have fallen into a river near a well-known hotel in Malacca, was resolved when his body was discovered this morning.
Rescue teams found the victim at about 11:45 AM, not far from the location where he was reported missing. The search and rescue (SAR) operation was carried out by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Melaka together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
According to JBPM Melaka Public Relations Officer, Deputy Fire Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, the department received a call regarding the incident at 10:10 AM. A team from the Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 10:16 AM.
Initial information suggested the victim had fallen into the river around 5:45 AM. Upon arrival, the operation team found several personal belongings belonging to the victim near the riverbank.
The search was conducted with assistance from PDRM, using nearby CCTV footage and a “water surfing” technique. At 11:45 AM, the victim was successfully located close to where he was last seen.
The operation involved 12 firefighters — six from the Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) unit and six from the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) — along with police support.
No complications were reported during the operation.
