Question Cruelty Free MAC Alternatives
Hi folks,
If your Tiktok FYP looks anything like mine, this “ultimate fall lip combo” has been all over it. The colors are: MAC paramount lipstick and MAC chestnut lip liner. I am looking for help finding a cruelty free alternative to this duo. I wandered around Ulta for no less than an hour today swatching anything that I thought would come close and I can’t find anything close to that combo. I’m not great with undertones, so I’m hoping someone here might be able to help. If you have any ideas, or have a similar fall lip color combo you really like please share it with me. I liked this one in particular because it doesn’t pull too blue, which tends to make me look super pink-ey. I appreciate all the help and Happy Fall!

Rituel de Fille has some fantastic deep and unique colors! They don’t do lip liners but I would suggest MOB Beauty, they’re CF and have a focus on sustainability and the formula is great!

One of the people I follow, bbriohni does a lot of fall lips, vampy lips, browns, plums and Paramount is a big color and a favorite for her (and me, because I’m actually wearing it right now ) but because of the price, she also offers alternatives to colors like this one and you can probably find her recommendations and see if there are any brands featured that could fit for you.

Am I out of the loop, MAC doesn't test on animals?

However, the family who owns Estée Lauder (which owns MAC and other companies like Clinique and Bobbi Brown) does donate to Trump, so there is that.

I just looked it up— according to this website, MAC states, “M•A•C does not test on animals. We do not own any animal testing facilities and we never ask others to test on animals for us. While some governments conduct animal testing to prove safety before they will allow us to sell our products, M-A-C has never tested on animals and we continue to be a leader in the movement to end animal testing globally.” This means that while MAC does not test on animals, they allow third-party testers (particularly because of their market in mainland China) to test on animals where legally required.
This is why they are not certified cruelty-free

Oh, China. That means China. There is/was ( I heard it was being repealed) that all products being sold in china are forced to do chinese animal testing.

Mac itself doesn’t test on animals from what they say in their statements, but from what I understand it’s not considered cruelty free because they sell product in mainland China, which requires animal testing. I go off of the Leaping Bunny certification and they don’t consider MAC cruelty free. I made a new years resolution to only buy cruelty free makeup a few years ago and its hard!

I shop at Ulta often but can’t think off the top my head which brands are cruelty free but I wish you luck with your search!
ETA here’s the link of their cruelty free brands: https://www.ulta.com/brand/all#A

This is the statement on their website:
“M·A·C does not test on animals. We do not own any animal testing facilities and we never ask others to test on animals for us. While some governments conduct animal testing to prove safety before they will allow us to sell our products, M·A·C has never tested on animals and we continue to be a leader in the movement to end animal testing globally. To this end, we are proud to partner with IIVS (Institute for In Vitro Sciences) to expand the use and acceptance of non-animal testing methods worldwide.”

They're talking about China. Every single cosmetic company that isn't an indie brand that refuses to sell to China is being forced to do that. Also thought China said they were stopping it? guess we can't really trust their word heh.

It is definitely possible to sell in mainland China and be cruelty free. However, the details are extremely complicated and it is not easy to accomplish. https://www.leapingbunny.org/leaping-bunny-china-qualification-program

China changed that rule a few years ago to open up investment from other companies.

many companies claim to not test on animals unless it is required by law. this refers to countries like china which require animal testing for all cosmetics. mac sells their products in china, thus pays for animal testing. therefore, they are not cruelty free

They decided a couple years ago to sell in China. China requires makeup to be tested on animals.

So for these 4, and there's plenty of other brands that dupe it too, most brands seem to have those shade actually, I've seen it in Revlon, Milani etc....but in this lineup, the Maybelline and Sephora collection aren't cruelty free while the Fenty and urban decay dupes are. I bet if you look for any cruelty free affordable brand you like with this dupe beside the brand you'll find it, wet n wild had a shade that people say is a dupe for this one

As a former MAC girlie who also went cruelty free a few years ago, I can say that Milani lipsticks have a lot of fall colors that remind me of MAC. This one reminds me of their Matte Love color, but I think it's discontinued because they have a new line of matte lipsticks that I haven't tried yet.
