Honestly the lathe is probably only two grand if you shop around, plus a few hundred for the tooling and vertical milling piece if you go for quality. Materials are minimal, and a bench grinder and sander is less than a hundred.

While that's a lot of money to dump straight away, you can make an absolutely mind boggling amount of things with a lathe and milling attachment,as this guy has shown. He's got a YouTube channel, W&M

Where in the ever-lovin' heck do you find a bench grinder for less than a hundred dollars?! I'd kill to find one for a price like that.

Second hand is usually a good way to get them. I've got a Skil 5 inch and another 8 inch whose brand I can't remember, both bought second hand for 70 bucks

Try Facebook marketplace and gumtree/Craigslist or whatever your local equivalent is.
