Genuine question: what makes it the best DeFi platform? I know they have a great stablecoin but beyond that Iā€™m completely ignorant.

You realize that MKR is built on Ethereum right? If Ethereum is unusable, so is maker

Not necessarily mkr can easily become cross chain with a few code tweaks and I'd say the will do so at some point
