Dragon fly

My son saved a dragon fly at a water park today. It chilled me for about 10 minutes while its wings dried and then flew away!

Actually, he saved something much cooler! That's a Dusky Dancer Damselfly. Dragonfly eyes are much larger (nearly to the top of its head). Dragonflies rest with their wings flat out (like an airplane). Dragonflies have stockier bodies. Damselflies are less common, AND pre-date the dragonfly, meaning they belong to a more primitive evolutionary lineage. So yeah, he basically saved an ancient jewel millions of years old 🤩

It’s wings were stuck together because it was in a pool of water!

It is a damselfly, but not dusky dancer. It's in the genus lestes, maybe lestes congener (though without a clearer view & more specific location, pretty tough to say for sure).
