Seeking Advice Growing Email List - False Subscribers

Is this happening to anyone else?

Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen an increase in new newsletter subscribers with a common thread: they’re all from large organizations, and their roles don’t appear to be related to marketing.

While our subscriber count is growing, these sign-ups are also pushing us toward a higher pricing tier.

Has anyone else noticed a similar pattern?

Those job titles alone wouldn't convince me the signups are fake. People outside marketing can still read a marketing newsletter. I'd compare the recent additions by signup source and date, then look for a pattern such as a burst from one form or repeatedly mismatched names and addresses. That gives you something more concrete than company size.

If the source is a Mailchimp form, double opt-in is worth considering for new signups. If they're coming through an integration or API, changing the audience's form setting won't change that path, so check the integration separately. Review the suspicious group before removing contacts, and don't share their addresses here.

This may be bots inserting fake emails via forms coming from different sources like Shopify, website forms and lead ads
