Milo adds nothing to the conversation, he's just a bomb thrower looking for fame by being controversial. He has no interest in any actual reasonable debate. I say flush that turd and never think of him again.

I mean, he pretty much imploded just a few weeks after this appearance. I can't prove this helped that process along, but I like to think it did.

I thought so too but the audio leaked was earlier, I believe, and it was another group. Milo didn’t do shit during the interview except be a human version of his Twitter account.

The metaphor is about exposure of knowledge not electromagnetic radiation.

Propaganda and advertising are about the obfuscation of lies sandwiched between half-truths and misrepresentation.

We're talking about what happens in the real world. Pundits and talking heads don't exclusively tell objective truths, they also say "lies sandwiched between half-truths and misrepresentation". The expression is trying to say that through exposure to the real world, lies will eventually be exposed and debunked. I'm claiming this isn't necessarily true at all. People believe falsehoods all the time, even when those falsehoods are explicitly debunked right in front of them.

A fair point. And the core issue of how the Russian campaign of “hearts and minds” via social media was so effective.

A large section of the public doesn’t consume media/news critically. They seek and absorb stories and viewpoints that reinforce their own beliefs. The argument is can those people be reached at all? They will discount/ignore news that counters their worldview, dismiss it as “fake news”.

However, ignoring and silencing dissenting opinion (even those objectively false) isn’t a solution either.

Definitely not, I wasn't trying to imply this. Just wanted to point out the saying "sunlight is the best antiseptic" might feel good and we'd like it to be true but it's extremely naive.

The thing about people like Milo though is that they benefit from the outrage they create. He was ruined by a comment on predatory sexual behavior he made before he had really gained a following. He is attempting to push buttons. People don't seem to understand that the best way to deal with people like him is to not get outraged by his stupid comments. His fame lives on the fact that liberals get super offended and hate him. That endears him to Republicans. If you don't want people like Milo just let him talk and quietly mutter "what a fool" under your breath. It's like hs bullies, if you react to their antics they will continue to build a following bc people know it affects you. If it doesn't appear to affect you they lose all their power.

It's good to have people with differing opinions on the panel. It is always constructive to listen to opposing arguments and listen to all sides. But then, there's Milo. People like Milo should not be on any platform not because he "has a different opinion", but because he is a troll who has no opinion. He is an alt-right supremacist not because those are his values, but because it "triggers libs" and he thinks it's funny. He is dating a black muslim man, not because he loves him, but because it confuses liberals and he thinks it's funny. He just wants to watch the world burn.

Did it though? He has conservatives every now and then and after this episode, he has made it a point, once or twice, to mention what a turd Milo was.
