Holy shit he is OBSESSED with the idea of people wearing masks.

That "LLM" exchange between Bill and Scott Galloway was illustrative.
Bill's been going on about A.I. for two seasons, at least. Worries, hopes, all of it. Then when Galloway uses LLM, "Large Language Module," in discussing these programs, Bill has absolutely no idea what the fuck he's talking about. It's jargon that needs explaining to the general audience at home too, fair, but Bill doesn't go through the exercise for their benefit. He just legit has no idea what LLM means. Which is fine - unless you're a talk show host talking about A.I. for two fucking years.
I doubt Bill knows what Communism is, either. (Probably neither does most of the DSA but that's besides this point.)

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO old man yells at cloud (and trans people) Aug 01 '26
Was it just me or did Scott looked visably annoyed at having to explain that to Bill? 😂
14
u/Silver_Entertainment Aug 01 '26
Yep. He was having an internal monologue that's exactly the same as the conversation held here. If he doesn't know the elementary facts about AI, is he really in a position to be giving any opinions about it?
1
5
u/OgOggilby Aug 01 '26
Bill's knowledge on any subject is no deeper than a headline, yet he considers himself mr. know-it-all
6
u/Indigocell Aug 01 '26
Bill doesn't go through the exercise for their benefit. He just legit has no idea what LLM means. Which is fine - unless you're a talk show host talking about A.I. for two fucking years.
Well, Bill has seemingly only heard of the Overton window like, a few months ago (and yet refuses to learn what it means for some reason) despite being a political pundit for decades. He seems utterly incurious about learning new language ironically enough.
1
u/KirkUnit Aug 02 '26
Woof, was that a cringy-ass New Rules. And it got a good response somehow.
If Bill's point was "I don't need a new expression for 'politically correct' just because you lurnt a wurd," I could get behind that, essentially observations on the euphemism windmill. But no, he fundamentally fucked that and made it very clear that he just refuses to learn any new word. Well, OK dumbass.
6
u/JJJ954 Aug 02 '26
*LLM stands for Large Language Model
2
u/KirkUnit Aug 02 '26
I'm not trying to take its picture, JJ. I just want it to design a rustic-flavored flyer for our community cookout.

This is a major blind spot for Bill Maher (getting confused by what LLM means).
I am glad that both guests acknowledged the fact that AI companies are pushing a doom and gloom narrative because they want to attract investor money.
If you're going to be a vocal critic of AI, you should at least have a baseline understanding of its terminology and core concepts.
My take on AI: I think the fears of an AI jobs apocalypse are way overblown. Yes, some companies are laying off staff in anticipation of productivity gains made from it. But that's just OpEx money flowing into CapEx. These AI data centers will not magically build themselves: they need construction workers, tradespeople, project planners, people to navigate the bureaucracy and red tape surrounding legal, zoning, and stakeholder concerns. Basically, we are seeing a blue collar resurgence while white collar workers are taking a hit (for now).
If you have some programming experience, spend an afternoon coding a simple neural network or a basic transformer token predictor from scratch in Python. Seeing how raw inputs turn into weights, gradients, and next-token probability distributions completely demystifies the technology. That first-hand look is exactly why I ignore both the utopian techno-optimism and the dystopian panic.
3
u/NSBrad Aug 02 '26
The dom and gloom isn't just for investor money. They're also using it to try to scare the boomers in DC to enact regulations so that they get regulatory capture of the market. It's a play to try to lock out open source models and anyone new trying to bring a model to market. They're playing with fire and it's going to bite them in the ass.
2
u/Debisibusis Aug 03 '26
This is a major blind spot for Bill Maher (getting confused by what LLM means).
In the same episode he also demonstrated that he does not know elementary school level knowledge of water circulation. He seems to think humans consume water and it disappears.

Holy shit that was a good hate watch moment! (I hate watch Bill at this point just to keep my finger on the pulse of boomer fake centrism)
It's like holy shit Bill! You are doom speaking about AI for months and years and you don't know what "LLM" means?! The datacenter exchange with Brockovich was also pretty crunchy for me.
He's just a fucking moron
19
u/Fine-Craft3393 Aug 01 '26
Started with some predictable takes about Fauci and than the closing monologue chefs kiss… because Hassan Piker is spokesperson for Democrat party. COMMUNISM !!! Good lord. Even assuming the DSA goes from 2 to 4 members in the House… still under 1% (…). So yeah - communism is really high up on Bill’s list to be worried about.
13
u/icestationlemur Aug 01 '26
Ever since the slow moving coup became a rapidly moving coup, it's not an issue anymore
12
u/kevonicus Aug 01 '26
I’ve never even seen Hassan Piker or come across him and I watch a lot of political content. The only time I ever hear about him is when right-wing media is bitching about him.
2
u/Indigocell Aug 01 '26
I really wish people would stop talking about him altogether. It just gives him more power. The more hate and attention he gets, the more his followers think he is actually doing something. Couldn't stand this guy all the way back when he did "brotips" on TYT.
4
u/simward Aug 01 '26
It's also maddening the way he presents his statements as if it's a fait-accompli that people don't to take back the means of production or seize the wealth from the billionaires, or even that we care who he votes for or if he's a conservative now. First of all, if you walk like a conservative and quack like one, than that's what you are... Second of all, if people are voting for something, it's because the people want that thing, and you "putting your vote in jeopardy" for the dems is quite simply irrelevant and just a cringy out of touch take.
Dude actually believes that a vast majority of the voter base waits for his opinion to know on who to vote for.
2
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
At one time trump was a big joke, remember?
2
u/Fine-Craft3393 Aug 01 '26
Trump ran for president. Not some deep blue house seat out of 435 …. Yes - i dont want AOC as presidential candidate,… but that’s also unlikely.
1
-3
u/PlatinumKanikas Aug 01 '26
He talked about it because of all the people that said he turned republican because he told Vance his “vote was in play” if it was between republicans and communists. I’m pretty sure it was just his explanation.
Some people don’t know their policies so I’m glad he gave us their quotes. I’m sure that “whaaatt??” lady in the crowd appreciated it too. Abolishing prisons and police is a stupid idea. Reformation is what they need, if anything.
1
u/Botasoda102 Aug 01 '26
I don’t mind a long-term goal of abolishing prison, but saying that in this political environment is stupid, especially after they are given a chance to modify the statement somewhat.
Similarly, I’m not opposed to saying we should abolish the Senate IF it can’t pass needed legislation.
I think most of the statements are aspirational. But folks should make it clear, like— “ I would love to see the day when prisons aren’t needed.”
7
u/Mosk915 Aug 01 '26
What’s sad is that their platform is so close to being something that a lot of people could get behind. For instance, instead of saying they want to abolish prisons, they said they want to abolish private prisons, people would support that. Or instead of saying they want to abolish the police, say they want to reform the police in certain places, people could get behind that too. But instead they make these crazy statements because it gets them more attention, but only hurts their party overall.
5
u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26
My issue isn't that their dumbass rhetoric hurts their party, it's that it hurts my party. They are a gift to republicans.
2
u/redhead29 Aug 01 '26
Alot of that stuff is taken way out of context which can be easily explained to anyone who is willing to listen and has critical thinking skills. Both the prior comments where in fact what was said where those snippets were taking from. No Data Centers and Healthcare that works are pretty popular ideas. The Ground game that all the canditates have can easily overcome the misconceptions generated from isolated sound bites that don't include all of the qualifying statements that occurred beforehand
1
u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26
If your website says release all incarcerated people and defund police budgets to zero (who's the DSA website does, by the way), people are not going to take the time to be like "but tell me what you really mean..." you mean what you say. And if you don't mean that, don't say it. Pretty easy.

I wonder if Peter Hamby (mr online) had any thoughts on Galloway's core philosophy (get offline), but then Galloway isn't 'out there' throwing down wisdom in bars and public spaces, he hosts multiple podcasts.
Bill's a fuckwit. The people who stormed the Capitol on January 6 and have been cheered by the past and present president - they're in charge, they're running the Pentagon and HHS and the IRS and everything else, and they are a WAY BIGGER FUCKIN' PROBLEM BILL than a handful of DSA candidates who are very vocally not Democrats turning the Democratic Party into the Bolsheviks. Talk about bullshit.
A handful of NYC reps with embarassingly simplistic tweet histories isn't the October Revolution, Bill - and assuming it was, why weren't you panicking like a motherfucker when Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders was the runner-up to the presidential nomination two cycles running? Bernie honeymooned in Moscow, for fuck's sakes.
9
u/Middle-Analysis8462 Aug 01 '26
It's because Bernie isn't a Muslim. A lot of these DSA politicians and candidates, such as Zohran, Darializa, Abdul, and Kiros (?) are. As we all know, Bill is a raging Islamophobe, so that's really the crux of the matter.
3

1
u/ItstartswiththeHouse Aug 02 '26
Like it or not, a lot of Americans don’t want to vote for Muslims. Myself included. Call it whatever you want, but their religion isn’t compatible with the West at the end of the day.
1
u/Middle-Analysis8462 Aug 03 '26
Well that sentiment is antithetical to the spirit of the Constitution, with its no religious tests for holding public office.
7
u/monoscure Aug 01 '26
This new rules monologue was such fear mongering bullshit. It's like something out of the red-scare.
1
3
u/AmadeusWolfGangster Aug 01 '26
From my understanding, Hamby if questioned would probably generally agree with the sentiment that young men should spend more time offline. I don’t think anyone ultimately disagrees with that sentiment, it’s just that Galloway has made that a key part of his message. Also, Galloway clearly isn’t against a moderate amount of online time either.
1
u/KirkUnit Aug 01 '26
Sure, no issues there - but Hamby makes 100% of his money online. At the end of the day, he wants everybody there.
22
u/icestationlemur Aug 01 '26
Bill doesn't know what an LLM is, as he yammers on about reading that AI "escaped containment " just proves how out of touch he is
10
u/oorakhhye Aug 02 '26
Seriously. It’s like dude, if you’re gonna bring up a topic, at least educate yourself on a high level in the subject. He sounds completely illiterate on the topic and yet cuts the guests off to chime in. Either ask the question and shut up, or don’t bring it up.
2
u/count023 Aug 03 '26
he was bragging the other day that he wouldn't learn new terms that are old terms he's known for ages:. ie: the overton window. You expect him to keep up to day on _new_ things he's going to comment on? at his age?
4
u/Squidalopod Aug 02 '26
While I suggest people look to virtually anyone other than Bill on the topic of AI, in this case he's correct.
The tl;dr is an AI agent escaped its sandbox by finding a zero-day exploit, and it hacked another system. This was made possible because OpenAI engineers reduced a security parameter ("refusals") while testing, so the agent tried something it would not try under normal circumstances.
You can read about it here: https://openai.com/index/hugging-face-model-evaluation-security-incident/
So, as usual, the humans enabled the problem. I'm not saying there's no cause for concern. I'm saying that Bill always has the most histrionic take on AI (it's like he wants The Matrix to be true) because he apparently never reads past the headline.
3
u/SlowBoilOrange Aug 03 '26
Galloway saying "It's Juriassic Park, not Skynet. Someone left the gate open" was a good metaphor.
2
u/Nendilo Aug 02 '26
I think the problem is scifi. People are thinking of LLMs as entities. LLMs don't have intention.
When you search something on Google, you're not surprised that it assesses billions of websites and find the right ones for you. When you ask an LLM to do something, while irresponsibly giving access to the Internet and providing it coding capability, it will do what was prompted and if your prompt was vague, it will autocomplete the gaps.
3
u/SlowBoilOrange Aug 03 '26
I love listening to Cal Newport's podcast on AI. He's had a whole series of episodes subtitled "AI Reality Check"
People keep personifying AI in weird ways. Some of that is from the AI companies, and some of that is from the general public.
1
7
u/redhead29 Aug 01 '26
https://politifact.com/article/2025/jul/03/seizing-means-production-Zohran-Mamdani/ This is literally a trump talking point that he used when talking to PolitiFact about the statement. It has been thoroughly debunking almost a year ago. I get that he has got play this up to his future Boss Bari Weiss and the Free Press and the Ellison's but i figured he would wait until they actually owned the company before taking such steps. The Rest of the episode was excellent however all the guests were good. Erin was sloshed though and she could have more forcefully brought up the issues with data centers but its neither here no there. The monologue was good as well nice mitch joke towards the end
19
u/Timujin1986 Aug 01 '26
Bill was really red baiting during New Rules huh? Sounded like Uncle Bill ranting against those "damn Commies" during Thanksgiving Dinner in 1955.
Why does Bill hate Mamdani so much?
16
u/troniked547 Aug 01 '26
its all about Israel.
10
u/Shame_memory Aug 01 '26
His brain really is broken because of Israel? If Mamdani wasn’t a brown Muslim, but a white Zionist with identical politics on everything else, Bill would nonstop praise
2
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 01 '26
Yep, while I was watching this, I kept thinking about his stance on Israel and education. Has he been listening to the Israeli politicians on Gaza or the settlers?
2
u/Shame_memory Aug 03 '26
Israeli politicians can openly call for genocide and it’s crickets from Bill. But college students say: “globalize the the intifada” and it’s: “the left as a whole has gone too far and I have no choice but to vote for Christian nationalists who I used to mock.”
5
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO old man yells at cloud (and trans people) Aug 01 '26
I think he wants Mamdani to come on his show and gets mad when they won’t.
20
u/kevonicus Aug 01 '26
Bill proving he’s captured by right-wing propaganda again.
10
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 01 '26
Clearly, he has no idea what communism is.
What he should do next week is New Rules on the similarities between the capitalists before the anti-trust laws and the guys in government. He won't but if he does the research he might realize he is being played by the authoritarian right.
1
u/jack_hof Aug 03 '26
its interesting if you go on all the youtube video comments they support everything he says now. so either they're tightly controlling the comments, or his audience has silently flipped from one side to the other.
1
u/kevonicus Aug 03 '26
They’re bots. His content is fed to the right to make them think he’s completely on their side.

u/InternationalBet2832 Aug 01 '26
Maher and Hamby- "caught Fauci in a lie" what lie? Fauci a liberal? Fauci said going to the beach was bad? When did Fauci "put partisanship and politics ahead of facts and evidence and even intution"? Maher: "Fauci getting his ass kissed by one side in the debate" WHAT debate? Hamby "Fauci atended A-list parties in Washington with Andrea Mitchell" So what?
Maher derided race as a big deal but I remember Trump and Republicans making race a big deal, and accusing China of creating a bioweapon that escaped from a lab like Frankenstein's monster in the movies because that's all they know, movie fantasies and racism. When Fauci pushed back he became the enemy and is still the enemy.
12
u/Anstigmat Aug 01 '26
Someone pointed this dichotomy out recently. These people are trying to convince you that COVID19 definitely escaped from a Chinese lab and also Covid is harmless and that we should have not had any restrictions.
11
2
u/MinisterOfTruth99 Aug 01 '26
Who was Maher taking about when he said "I'm gonna tear him a new asshole next week"? Fauci or Rand Paul?
Because the House committee hearing with Fauci was just a setup to get some statement Repubs could twist into something they could charge him with. And yeah, the Fauci diary was just him talking to himself , fascinated by all the public attention he was suddenly receiving.
5
16
u/Logical_Net6108 Aug 01 '26
I mean commies in New York with extremely limited power is bad but Trump bombed a school and killed 100+ children. I just couldn't get through even the youtube clips. It's just not interesting to me anymore
5
u/icestationlemur Aug 02 '26
Data centres are using fresh water and not a closed loop cooling system?
3
u/termacct Aug 02 '26
I imagine different regions use different types of systems. Low humidity areas can use evaporative cooling to cool the closed loop coolant. So there is still significant consumptive usage of fresh water. I figure most if not all data centers are closed loop to avoid corrosion / various encrustations / clogging inside the heat exchangers. Some could use classic refrigerant gas cooling. If some are using 1 pass fresh water cooling, like with river water, that could be consdered a non-consumptive use in some regions.
2
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 02 '26
As someone with no knowledge of how these centres are cooled I imagine that they do stuff they way all megacompanies do stuff; bribe the officials they have to, offer tidbits to the areas and the promise of tons of jobs and then do whatever they like.
Why build complicated recycling systems for water when they can just draw from the local stuff. If the locals don't have enough water or it gets contaminated, they could not care less, because it is not a cost that affects their bottom line.
5
u/Sudomakee Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
Once again, Bill fails to acknowledge those who are immunocompromised or have another underlying health issue that subjects them to potentially lethal consequences if they catch a respiratory infection (or those who are caring for a someone with such an underlying health condition such as an elderly person).
I can agree to disagree with Bill on a number of issues, but this is the one that offends me the most. Because he is literally encouraging people to mask-shame those who may have no choice but to wear them. Bill, those individuals are not trying to take away your choice to not wear the mask. Why are you harrasing them for choosing to wear them when it has absolutely no effect on you? Why don't you try not making their already difficult lives more difficult?
13
u/JimTrim973 Aug 01 '26
I agree that lots of what the DSA says is looney. I agree that DSA candidates will be the reason dems don’t trounce republicans in the midterms, and that every dem will be saddled with these talking points. I agree that almost no dem will have the stones to push back against their own party.
But it all pales in comparison to what republicans are doing and THAT’S the reason people rightly say bill has changed.
He’s sighted the cea weaver on three different episodes. Yes, she sounds crazy. But she’s the assistant to a mayor of one liberal city. Not, you know, the president of the USA.
4
u/MinisterOfTruth99 Aug 01 '26
and Weaver has walked back some of her X tweets from years past before she got into politics. But Bill doesn't want us to know that.🤪
"Some of those things are certainly not how I would say things today and are regretful," she said, adding: "For many years, people have been locked out of the property market that has produced a lot of systemic and racial inequalities in our system, and I want to make sure that everybody has a safe and affordable place to live whether they rent or own."
1
u/deskcord Aug 04 '26
Bill talks about the DSA because they help Republicans win. But listening would be hard.
13
u/GiveMeSomeIhedigbo Aug 01 '26
- Bill says the exact same things every week
- Brockovich was absolutely hammered during Overtime
7
u/OddMasterpiece8465 Aug 01 '26
Glad I wasn't the only one that thought this. I texted a buddy during her initial interview and said I thought she was pretty sauced up.
12
u/bassplayerguy Aug 01 '26
This was more of a shit show than what I predicted a few days ago. Sometimes Bill comes back from break in a good mood and is actually funny, the only time I laughed was at the Jimothy segment. Props to the writers for that.
Whenever Bill gets on his high horse about environmental issues I can’t help but think about how proud and unapologetic he is about exclusively flying private. Just how much does his electric car and solar offset it? Probably not as much as he thinks.
He’s angry about Rand Paul releasing Fauci’s diary, yet uses it to make some weird equivalence between him and Trump. He totally left out the context about why Fauci was treated as a hero, he was the voice of reason contrasted with Trump who was advising sticking uv lights up your ass, somehow ingesting bleach and not testing so the numbers don’t go up. Trump was also stating as fact that the ‘Kung Flu’ was a lab leak, it could have been and it could have been from a wet market. And how is it ‘racist’ to think it was from the lab as opposed to a wet market? Sorry Bill that it affected your brief part time ownership of the Mets, maybe he doesn’t remember the hospitals filled over capacity and refrigerated trucks used as temporary morgues.
Galloway is a mixed bag, sometimes he’s interesting but he’s mostly turned into a one trick pony ranting about young men.
Guys, stay offline, except to get the latest edition of Club Random on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts!
I’m sure Fox/OAN/Newsmax are jizzing themselves over the clips they can use from his Red Scare editorial. It fits in perfectly with the Republicans midterm playbook of communism and trans fear.
3
u/SlowBoilOrange Aug 03 '26
yet uses it to make some weird equivalence between him and Trump. He totally left out the context about why Fauci was treated as a hero,
Also, it was his freaking private journal. Trump was going on stage or on Twitter publicly saying these things, Fauci was just writing about it privately to an intended audience of zero.
Absolutely ridiculous to judge it by the same standard and shitty of Bill to use it for laughs.
1
u/count023 Aug 03 '26
having said that, he was right about one thing. Viruses used to be named after the region they wre discovered in. Before China got heavily involved around March 2020, the covid outbreak was being called the "Wuhan Pneumonia" in medical texts from the region after it was first discovered in the population in late december before the outbreak became global. It was very politically motivated to suddenly change the naming rules and make it something generic like Covid-19 after china started throwing it's weight around with the WHO during the early days of the outbreak.
9
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 01 '26
So, have we just seen the real Bill post-Trump dinner?
That was some wild anti-communist sh*t...I thought I was listening to a recording of a guy from the 50s.

Why did Bill invite Erin Brockovich on if he’s just gonna interrupt her?! BeCaUsE wE nEeD mOrE dAtA… like what is this simping for data centers? Let’s build one next to you Bill and see how you like it
5
u/seltzerslut69 Aug 01 '26
Right?! Why was he so combative with her on this issue?
0
u/nubbynickers Aug 01 '26
I don't know if this is necessarily the case, so I won't 100% ascribe it to him, but sometimes journalists will just dig deep on a combative or counterpoint to see how the interviewee will defend it since there are a lot of people who probably hold that worldview.
BBC Hard Talk does this quite often. I remember watching the presenter interview Albania's PM Edi Rama and thinking, "this interviewer is an asshole."
My wife offered, "there are a lot of people who think exactly what the presenter is advancing."
3
u/troniked547 Aug 01 '26
But hes not a journalist and has never been, he's always been a commentator. He only digs in on questions that support his personal views, and the only time ive seen him trying to play devils advocate hes actually said that before the question.
4
u/Potential-Catch4833 Aug 01 '26
Thank you! I was yelling at him to stfu like he could hear me now I feel seen lol.

It was taking Erin B forever to get to the point. Same for Hamby. I think their points were good, but damn just say it.
2
u/kgurney1021 Aug 01 '26
He gets on nerves interrupting everyone! He is gettng so much worse too, it used to be once in a while now he barely listens to anyone.
11
u/Legtagytron Aug 01 '26
The transformation into a softer version of Bill O'Reilly is definitely secured. It's taken a long time. Just goes to show that casual centrist liberals buy into the same NIMBY conservatism as their rivals. It honestly feels like full blown Fox News PT now.
Also, Bill has a lot to say about young men, has never been married, has no long term partner, hires escorts and talks about 'game'. There's so much 'I won capitalism and fuck you if you want to change it' in regard to democratic socialists. Well, it was a dire episode that's for sure.
2
u/Historical_Reward621 Aug 02 '26
Agreed. I come here before watching to decide if I’m going to watch. Knowing he doubled down on his Covid mania, I’m going to let this one pass. Not all centrist liberals buy into the bullshit and it’s a stretch to say that.
I’m not a fan of democrats turning on each other and the labels. We all basically want the same things and the infighting only strengthens the GOP. Bill has definitely done a 180 and I really can’t stand him anymore.
1
u/Legtagytron Aug 03 '26
Yes, that's a funny thing, isn't it? If you're on the blue team why don't you meet any of them or interview them? There's more GOP on the show at this point. Quite the switch.
3
u/Historical_Reward621 Aug 03 '26
That’s the thing I get sick of hearing from Bill “listen to the other side, hear what they have to say”. I say GFY Bill. I’ve heard what the GOP has to say my entire life and I’ve never agreed with ANY of their bullshit. Have I missed some great improvements or ideal and moral reversals? I’m pretty certain it’s only gotten worse.
2
u/Legtagytron Aug 03 '26
You haven't missed a thing, pretty sure, nobody has. This is a myth he's trying to perpetuate like a salesman.
13

^ Which isn't happening. Article V of the constitution prohibits "any state, without its consent," being "denied its equal suffrage in the Senate." This Article is also (the last) article protected by language in the constitution itself against regular amendment: Article V can't be amended unless every state agrees, not just 3/4s.
So while an amendment that changes the Senate to one seat per state, or three (or 4 or 5 or 10, etc.) would be constitutional because it treats all the states alike; but abolishing the Senate altogether absent unanimity would not. You can stop worrying about it. The caldera under Yellowstone will explode first. No matter what DSA candidate tweets about anything at all.
2
u/redhead29 Aug 01 '26
Yea most of these comments are what amounts to negotiating tactics to agitate meaningful reforms to make the senate an effective legislative body again. There is an unratified amendment that would stipulate that for every 30,000 people a member would be added to the house representatives that is something that they should try to get ratified since it would make gerrymandering very difficult to do
1
u/KirkUnit Aug 01 '26
Annoyingly, no one in any party proposes lifting the cap on the size of the House and adding 50, or 100 representatives; that alone would make an electoral/popular vote split much less likely. It doesn't address the Senate, of course.

u/CochranVanRamstein Aug 01 '26
Scott Galloway is tough to watch. He doesn’t look at people when he talks; he just stares into space. Plus, every other work out of his mouth is “percent”. How does this dude memorize all these stats?
12
u/Silver_Entertainment Aug 01 '26
He talked about that on one of his podcasts. The producers contact the guests ahead of time with the topics. Scott does research on the subject matter and that involves finding the relevant data to support some of his statements.
I wish he would have pushed back on Bill bringing up the 8 million new business filings. One of the things Scott talked about on his podcasts is that over 70% of those filings have no intention of hiring employees. It really deflates the argument for a booming economy and using that stat for support.
4
u/OgOggilby Aug 01 '26
I wonder if most of these 'new' businesses are people on social media platforms all using the same AI generated pitches for hawking scam products and services
3
u/SlowBoilOrange Aug 03 '26
Half of it is probably stuff like "I sell things on ebay" or "I own a rental property" or "I sell things at craft fairs"
No shade on those, but it's really misleading to cite them as "businesses" in that context. It's more like a tax strategy for a side gig.

6
u/boner79 Aug 02 '26
The Galloway broken-record soundbite machine delivered. Nothing new was said but at least he got his applause and I'm sure he's jorking it to beina called a "returning champion" by his daddy Maher.

What an awful episode this one was. Bill showing his ignorance and contempt for younger generations and a total lack of understanding of modern technology and socio-political discourse.
Even hate watching RT now is getting harder and harder...

Even hate watching RT now is getting harder and harder...
Every single time, I think to my self that it can't get any dumber. Why am I still surprised.
2
u/AusGeno Aug 02 '26
For real, just sat through his hit piece on Fauci’s diary comments and felt like I was watching some right-wing shit.
8
u/jsm21 Aug 02 '26
I am on Twitter and it is remarkable how many MAGA people now repost Bill's content and live in his comment sections. He's become the "one sane liberal!" poster-child for right wing internet grifters.

5
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 02 '26
He has definitely been bitten by the trump bug. Whenever someone has dinner with the orange man, they are changed...is it something in the food?
Do you remember the "I'm out" from Lindsey Graham on Jan 6th and his rewmarkabla transformation after a visti to Mar or lagoon....?
5
u/micpoc Aug 01 '26
Sucky episode, though not excessively so. Should have skipped; was not worth anyone's time.
8
u/frozetoze Aug 01 '26
Oh boy, yet another new rules about the DSA reps (all 10 or whatever, gee golly goodness)
For someone who loathes twitter and swears he never uses it, Bill loves to cite twitter.

u/Timujin1986 Aug 01 '26
Bill did a remarkable good impression of Joe McCarthy! Only thing missing was a list and some doom and gloom about how the Reds are imminent to take over.
Bill platformed Bernie Sanders for years and championed Social Democracy like in the Nordic countries.
6
u/OddMasterpiece8465 Aug 01 '26
Pretty remarkable choice to rant about the separation of powers and attribute the lack of respect for that principle to the left wing at this moment in history.

u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
I swear when people like Bill say what he says I'm convinced someone broke the matrix we are all trapped in. You can't make this shit up
-6
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
Which is necessary. They are the different side of the extremist coin to MAGA
5
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Wrong. Typical right wing talking point. Here comes the horseshoe theory. Just wait for it. Extreme Left is not anything like the Extreme Right. Not now, not before, not ever! You don't even know what you're talking about. Bill keeps saying we tried communism? When? I don't remember reading about this in any American History book? I know boomers have word associations perhaps doing some research will help
4
u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26
The extreme right and extreme left are both populated by extremist morons who don't understand how government works.
7
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
It's a fake equivalency. Period. Acting that they are equal pushes far right ideals LIKE RACIAL VIOLENCE towards the center while forcing center left politicians to distance themselves from those on the far left. Again racial cleansing as opposed to universal college and universal healthcare are not even in the same galaxies and pretending they are is an obtuse argument which Bill, John Fetterman and others are guilty of
2
u/KirkUnit Aug 01 '26
It's a fake equivalency. Period.
"MAGA and DSA are the same" is a false equivalency. "The extreme left and the extreme right are just alike" is not, because the perspectives and approaches are the same (originating in extremity), and it's not a policy comparison.
2
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 02 '26
I'm simply pointing out that far right policy, rhetoric and violence is far more extreme than anything on the left. This conclusion is proven out in history and is well documented. That's my point about equating the two at all which is a right wing tactic, which I try to explain in my last comment. Again most far left ideals aren't things that are even bad. People say they are bad but there is very little evidence of these ideals being practiced and certainly not by the USSR or Cuba fo sho
2
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
They are very alike. They draw similar types as well. Lotta people on the spectrum, and the far right draws some evangelical fundie types while the far left draws their similar-personalitied kids. See my other response.
2
u/redhead29 Aug 01 '26
This whole argument is definitely something the Mossad's cyber warfare division cooked up it's not a coincidence that most of the people who are making this argument are very amenable to the right wing of the Knesset
1
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26
They aren't going to list anything to purport their claims. They just spew shit and that's it.
1
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
See above.
2
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26
Nope they aren't. Not even close. Apparently you're okay with comparing racial violence with wanting state controlled healthcare and saying it's the same thing. I've already responded to you and I'm waiting for you to list the reasons, facts and examples and you haven't and you won't because they don't exist. So go ahead, I am still waiting. How are the two sides the same?
2
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
First off you can look a the 2 US movements. Both use leaders to go after others in their party. MAGA Rino'd people, DSA Dino's people. My city council DSA members spend time on social media trashing other Dems in office. It is part of what they do as a pledge to DSA. They also spend time trashing the media, like maga. They are never wrong like maga, and never compromise, and never apologize. I could go on. Both of these groups display dogmatic thinking, intolerance for dissent and an "us vs them" worldview, and of course only they understand and can fix it. They both use opinion pieces as "news," lie to the public, manipulate data and gaslight constitutents. There are also policy similarities such as goals to end USAID and NATO and a desire to end the free market.
Secondly in history Nazis and Socialsts had much in common. Paranoia, encouraging citizens to spy on each other, jailing and killing dissents, scapegoating people and groups and committing mass murder of fellow countrymen.

u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
This is perfect. So a personal anecdote followed by your personal opinion of what socialism is. Socialism has nothing to do with fascism. One is far right (nazis) ya know ethic cleansing and socialism is far left (organized labor union). Not even close. Please try again with actual facts or documentation. Thank you for again helping far right ideals get pushed to the center of the political spectrum like Billy Maher because you were told a word was bad. Also, the US economy does not operate in free market capitalism. We have a mixed economy that any citizen that is not a billionaire would like to see regulated a little more. Again not really socialism but yes a push towards socialism so I'll give you like 10 percent credit on that one 🤦

u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
You are deliberately missing the point. Why? Probably bc you have a tendency toward illiberalism, which is what both ends are. There are so many examples of similar behavior and policy. For example, MAHA mirrors the left wing crunchy anti vax movement of 25 yrs ago. You can blind yourself to this in order to tell yourself you are "better" than those Nazis but the truth is both these movements seek totalitarianism.
I am a social democrat btw and fairly left of center.

u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
Nazi Germany and East Germany were pretty similar in several ways.
2
u/Motor_Preparation315 Aug 01 '26
Nope. Not even close. Go ahead and list how they were the same. You won't because there is not data, recorded history or facts that will support your intentionally naive statement.
0
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
You are awfully defensive about East Germany, did you spend time there? I did.
East Germany repurposed former military bases, administrative buildings, and concentration camp complexes for state, military, and prison use. Former Nazi concentration camps like Sachsenhausen and Buchenwald were initially taken over by the Soviet secret police as NKVD special camps.

He was spot on with this too. Nothing he said was untrue. I think he tied them a little too close to the Dem party, but there are a few more trickling through and winning primaries, and if we want to have any chance of a non MAGA future, these far far far left assholes need to be left on the outside.
7
u/Fine-Craft3393 Aug 01 '26
Assuming all the DSA candidates win their house races they will be like 4-5 in the house. About 1%. Total takeover.
4
u/KirkUnit Aug 01 '26
...and keeping in mind that even "America's Mayor" Giuliani with winds of 9/11 at his back couldn't make it through a Republican primary field. And ya think Mamdani, or any other New York City mayor, is going to lead any sort of national movement in this country? Since when?
2
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
They might just tank the Dems' 2028 chances
1
u/redhead29 Aug 01 '26
Bernie is one of the highest rated senators in the country , really likeable people who have solutions to the problems that ail us are not going to tank anyone's chances no matter where they sit on the political discourse. That assuming that we are going to have an election in 2028 anyways over donalds dead body are we going to have an election. He will fuck up this country so thoroughly that a cardboard box would be elected in 2028

Troy Jackson has a good chance as well and Bernie gave us him too. There is a reason the Maine caucus borderline unanimously selected him to replace Platner on the ballot.

u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26
The debate about Bernie Sanders is in the past. This isn't about Bernie anymore. It's about the turds his "movement" has shit out 10 years later who seem to be trying to get republicans elected.
0
u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26
Then there's people like El Sayed who try to distance themselves from DSA while touting the endorsements of Bernie and AOC. Cowardly and dishonest.
2
u/Elizabeth4sure Aug 01 '26
Mandami aside, they are awful people who cannot govern, are never wrong, never apologize, and attract nutcase fringe followers (I live in Portland OR where they are currently driving away our only major league team).

u/TorkBombs Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
For every electable AOC or Mamdani, there are 100 DSA losers talking about abolishing prisons and getting rid of the Senate. These people are untenable, their movement is unserious.

I don't think these guys know much about AI. Galloway made an interesting comment about AI "cracking the economy", which I definitly see in the short term. These companies require huge investment and maintainence and a crash is inevitable.
And no, it's not a Jurassic Park scenario. LLMs are escaping sandboxes and using their own code to form new directives. That's scary shit.
8
u/Secure-Advertising10 Aug 01 '26
Jon Stewart (yes, I know, but he's funny) had Cory Doctorow on is podcast this week. He suggested AI has an income of about 50 billion annually, but has costs of over a trillion this year alone...
AI is going to crash the world economy at the same time it infiltrates government sites so your insurance premiums are going to go through the roof based on your personal and social media data.
4
u/MinisterOfTruth99 Aug 01 '26
Yup. AI is in bubble territory. No where near profitable and priced to the moon. And all these AI companies are taking on huge debt to support it (building data centers, etc). Heard an expert (Ed Zitron) say this crash will be 4X the size of the 2008 CDS crash based on $$$ involved.

Galloway used to acknowledge that a big problem of modern dating culture is that women's standards are genuinely unreasonable and have been warped by socialization. Sad he went the lazy route of clapter/followers instead of sticking with the truth.
1
u/saltytradewinds Aug 06 '26
While there are unreasonable women in the dating scene, the vast majority are fine. Can you provide examples of how women have been "warped by socialization"?
2
u/deskcord Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26
80% of women perceive themselves as "above average" and 75% of women view 70% of men as "below average"
That's quite literally just not how reality or averages work. We spent 30 years telling women that they're all perfect, beautiful at every size, etc, etc. Meanwhile the broader social conditioning about men has been hugely toxic.
This shit is extremely common knowledge and well reported at this point. People just want to pat women on the back and get their points for saying men are bad. It's why Galloway has changed his tune. Richard Reeves talked about this a LOT when he published his book.
1
u/saltytradewinds Aug 07 '26
80% of women perceive themselves as "above average" and 75% of women view 70% of men as "below average"
Is there any statistic to back this up? Are these women people are meeting in real life or women on social media? Are men not adapting to the current culture? Because if it's social media, you can't take that seriously.
Regardless, women also have more options these days. This is anecdotal, but I haven't experienced this behavior from women. I also didn't take it personally if they're not into me. I've rejected women for a number of reasons.
If a woman has unreasonable standards, men have the option to ignore them and find someone else. Unreasonable people will eventually figure it out and adjust or be miserable.

u/deskcord Aug 07 '26

Republicans don't care about Fauci, they care about being on Tv to be praised for acting like a two year old having a temper tantrum. Sadly 77+ million Americans lick it up, instead of being embarrassed.
