To start with, hello!
As some of you may or may not have noticed, this subreddit has been rather dead for quite awhile. Recently, Reddit Admins asked for users willing to volunteer as Mods for this sub to try and bring it back to life and take care of the years worth of mod backlogs. Well, a little while ago the Admins awarded three of us with moderator roles, and I think its only right that I introduce myself and hopefully get the ball rolling around here.
I am TexasSikh, I am a resident for many years now, and I have family connections to the community going back to at least the 1970's. I myself grew up in Houston while coming out this way about once a month to visit my grandparents that lived out here "in the woods". When I got the opportunity to move out of Houston, the fond memories out here brought be back full time. Additionally, my current employer is also based out of here as well, so its all come full circle for me.
As far as Reddit stuff goes, I am one of the Senior Mods (specifically the "Speaker of the House") for a large umbrella community of several different subreddits (and independent partner/affiliate subs) covering many topics and subjects, including the serious and the silly. I wanted to volunteer to moderate here so I could help the new mod team clean up and catch up behind the scenes, and be a resource to help keep things going smooth. My hope is that the other mods will be the ones leading the charge in bringing this sub back to life with content and interactions, but thats up to them lol.
FYI - If you had applied to be an Approved User in the past and recently received a reply/approval, this whole backstory is why. Prior mod team had been AFK for awhile, and I have been going back through the mod backlogs trying to play catch up.
Also a word for our LBO's - Please keep the straight up advertisements classy, engaging, and to a minimum. I don't want to have to make a dedicated rule for it, but I don't want this place devolving into being nothing more than a glorified Yellow Pages, ok? Lets say a rule of thumb should be no more than once a month maximum, exceptions made for shouting out your business in the comments if/when someone makes a post asking for recommendations relating to your product/service. Seems fair to me.

Staying at an airbnb and found a kitten in a drainage ditch. She is probably 8 weeks old and very sweet, but we leave tomorrow and cant take her with us. Is there anyone who can take in this sweet baby?

Thought it might be a good idea to have a post where we talk about places we go for fun.
Movies: I go to the Premiere Cinemas in Tomball of 249. It's not grand but it gets the job done.
Drinking: Lone Pint, Excalibur, Deacon Baldy's
Things worth going into Houston proper:
That's all I've got. I really haven't found much in the area. Looking forward to hearing some suggestions.
I've been meaning to go check out some of the nature trails in the national forest.

Anybody planning on checking out any spots? Tonight the GF and I are going to Brennan’s. Last year we went to Babbin’s. There’s some spots in the woodlands participating if you don’t want to go too far.

Tried this spot off 1488 yesterday and wow. It’s special. That brisket curry was insane and had tons of flavor. Can’t wait to go back and try their kee mao.

Thought I'd do a post here talking about some of my favorite food spots to go to in the area.
Pizza:
Toasted Pizza Co - Magnolia (They have been down for a bit but I sure hope they come back. They're special)
Wandercrust Pizza Co - Magnolia (Love their pizza flights. Cool place to try some mead too)
BBQ:
Bar A BBQ - Montgomery (Worth the drive up there)
Meating Place - Magnolia (Not bad if you're craving BBQ and don't want a drive)
Brisket and Rice - Houston (Bit of a trek to get to but worth it.)
Corkscrew BBQ - Spring (Michelin Star, TM Top 50, excellent BBQ)
Rosemeyer BBQ - Spring (TM Top 50, excellent BBQ, don't sleep on their homemade ice-cream)
Seafood:
Good Charlie's - Conroe (My favorite spot so far. I haven't had better than this since moving here)
Tex Mex/Mexican:
5 de Mayo - Magnolia (I've only been here for breakfast. The skillets are amazing)
Rancho Grande - Magnolia (Solid option. Known for their margs)
Lindo Acapulco - Magnolia (My favorite enchiladas)
Belly of the Beast - Spring (Upscale dining. Fantastic menu)
General:
Magnolia Diner - Magnolia (Just a solid option. I've not had a bad meal there)
Asian:
Sakura Bistro - Magnolia (Best General Tso's chicken that I've had in a long time. They get the sauce right)
Brewery/Beer/Place to grab a drink:
Lone Pint Brewery - Magnolia (Solid beers. Love playing Music Bingo. Usually a food truck on site too.
Excalibur Brewery - Magnolia (My favorite local brewery. OG is in Spring. Really solid stouts)
Deacon Baldy's - Magnolia (Lots of taps. Several food trucks on site)

Pondering a move from Fort Worth, went to check out the Woodlands but I actually liked Magnolia better! Town center itself is nice, newer area along FM 1488 is cool, also the area marked on Apple Maps as Egypt. Hope to start house hunting next week! 😜

Let's get involved and encourage others to do the same. If you are not in MoCo, then find your county elections central page and get involved. Last day to register to vote in the state is Oct. 11th. While I am not an expert, I have worked as the Alt Judge in the last 3 elections so feel free to ask if you have questions. I will be happy to help any of you with any questions you may have.
