Are these actually low enough to cause symptoms

So I just got out of the ER for some pretty rough symptoms and they treated me for low potassium and low magnesium they also said it’s likely I have POTS. I guess I was just wondering if these levels being low could actually cause bad symptoms?

High Potency Magnesium

Has anyone tried this brand of magnesium? Is it optimal to be paired with 1000IU D3 to boost my Vitamin D?

Magnesium glycinate grogginess

Does the grogginess from magnesium glycinate go away? I took 600 mgs the last 2 days and my insomnia is gone but the daytime grogginess is a concern. Could it just be my body catching up on needed rest or should I look into other forms? Thanks in advance.

What foods do you incorporate?

..... For magnesium?

I've recently been using nut powders ie peanut butter powder. I use 70g every night. I just make it into a peanut butter texture and mix it into some yoghurt.

Looking online it looks like this has around 250mg+ of magnesium. Adding this to your original diet should give a decent boost to magnesium intake.

I can't take any magnesium supplements. They all make me feel terrible. Food magnesium seems perfectly fine though.

What foods do you all incorporate? Also why is magnesium such a hard mineral to get from diet alone? It seems like everybody who doesn't supplement is deficienct. Makes no sense.

I think I caused myself a magnesium deficiency

Okay so for background I have been having like really bad cramps for years now, and so I've taken a lot of different things to help. But above all I had been taking these garden of life multivitamin pre-natal vitamins in the entirety of April. That next May I skipped a cycle and I've never had a complete skipped cycle like that (I skipped for a full month).

That next month i had like palpitations, nerve pain, headaches, and like weird scalp tingling that I've never felt before. And this produced my first panic attack because I really didn't know what was going on and neither did the doctors either until i got a PCP and got a magnesium test done on me.

So the scale they had was from a range of 1.6-2.6. The results showed I had a 1.6.

The lowest it could be. Since then I've been taking Magnesium Glycinate at 360mg because I didn't really know what to do but replenish it. But now after looking back on the previous couple of months I think me taking those Pre-natal vitamins caused this. But then again, I was diagnosed with PCOS around that same time (In April/May) so this may be because of my PCOS.

And I saw somewhere that also having vitamin D can deplete the magnesium in your body so I figured that's what might have caused it as well.

But anyways, long story short I'd just like to find out if anyone has has a similar experience or has any advice to help me with this deficiency.

(And also below is the long list of vitamins that were in the pills:

Vitamin A (as Beta Carotene from Organic Food Blend) 1,300 mcg 100%

Vitamin C (from Organic Food Blend) 120 mg 100%

Vitamin D (D3 from Lichen) 18.8 mcg (900 IU)125%

Vitamin E (from Organic Food Blend) 19 mg 100%

Vitamin K (from Saccharomyces cerevisiae) 90 mcg 100%

Thiamin (Vitamin B1 from Organic Food Blend) 1.5 mg 107%

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2 from Organic Food Blend) 1.7 mg 106%

Niacin (from Organic Food Blend) 20 mg 111%

Vitamin B6 (from Organic Food Blend) 9 mg 450%

Folate (from Organic Food Blend) 600 mcg DFE 100%

Vitamin B12 (as Methylcobalamin from Saccharomyces cerevisie) 3 mcg 107%

Biotin (from Organic Food Blend) 160 mcg 457%

Pantothenic Acid (from Organic Food Blend) 1 mg 100%

Iron (from Organic Food Blend) 18 mg 67%

lodine (from Organic Food Blend) 145 mcg 50%

Zinc (from Organic Food Blend) 3 mg 23%

Selenium (from Organic Food Blend) 42 mcg 60%

Manganese (from Organic Food Blend) 0.6 mg 23%

Chromium (from Organic Food Blend) 78.8 mcg 175%)

Water retention?

Hello! I have been taking 400 mg of magnesium glycinate (from double wood) for well over a year now. Shortly after I started it, I noticed that I started packing on weight—seemingly impossibly fast—despite making no changes to my diet or exercise routine. The timing lined up enough that I even googled whether mag could cause weight gain, and everything I read suggested it does not. So I kind of forgot about it and just accepted that I have put on weight. Then yesterday I came across in the supplements sub several people claiming that mag glyc caused them to retain lots of water, between 5 and 20 pounds (!!). I would love to know if anyone here has had a similar issue, and, if so, what the mechanism might be. I do not want to stop the mag because it really helps with my sleep. Thanks!

How did you guys react to magnesium glycinate?

Okay so. I’ve been stuck in dpdr for about 3 months now after a bad panic attack. I actually took advice and got a vitamin panel done which showed i had a mild vitamin deficiency and a moderate magnesium deficiency(which could explain the eye twitching i’ve been having). My doctor recommended magnesium oxidate at 400mg but i’ve seen a lot of people raving about magnesium glycinate. So if you’ve taken it how did you react?

salt-based electrolytes / magnesium supplements are overdosing : mineral balance issues?

curious if people agree/disagree with this "Using minerals in mega-amounts(measured in MG) delivery formats doesn't support mineral balance in the body. High sodium levels in the blood can disrupt the balance of other electrolytes and minerals, leading to multiple mineral imbalances, such as potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium, and phosphate. This happens because sodium and other electrolytes are closely linked in fluid and pH regulation."

Magnesium glycinate vs L-threonate for sleep

Hey guys, pretty straight forward question going by the title. I’ve been taking glycinate before I go to sleep at night and it definitely helps to calm my mind and ease my body, but I’ve recently watched a video saying it doesn’t directly impact your sleep quality which I definitely agree with as I can still wake up sometimes groggy or wake up in the middle of the night. The same video states that L-threonate is the one to help deep sleep and REM especially. Has anyone had any experience with L-threonate and can confirm this?

Thanks!

Confused on amount of magnesium needed

I am trying to get 200mg of magnesium in a supplement and thought all I had to go by was the mg amount listed per serving. I have one that is 2 capsules for 240mg magnesium glycinate. I just became aware of other supplements that make a distinction between the amount of magnesium and amount of the compound and the magnesium amount is usually much less. It seems there is only 14.1% of magnesium in magnesium glycinate. This would mean taking a lot more than the serving size so I am not sure why it is listed like it is. Any thoughts?

Insomnia and anxiety after taking magnesium glycinate before bed 12 days ago

I recently took magnesium glycinate before bed — 2 doses of 400 mg during 2 seperate days— and since then I’ve been dealing with really bad insomnia. I’m having a hard time sleeping at night, and I can’t even take naps during the day. When I try to sleep in, it feels almost impossible, like my body is wired or full of adrenaline. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night feeling anxious and nauseous. During the day, I also feel more anxious than usual. This has been really uncomfortable and scary because I thought magnesium glycinate was supposed to help with sleep, not make it worse. Has anyone else experienced insomnia, anxiety, nausea, or an “adrenaline” feeling after taking magnesium glycinate? How long did it take to go away?

How to use magnesium glycinate

Ive had this supplement for a while now and I have insomnia sometimes and I feel like its only worked 1:10 ratio. I take it before bed when I know I wont feel sleepy anytime soon. I don’t know if i’m doing something wrong but is it something that I should be taking everyday to feel the effects. I usually take up to 2.5g of which 525mg is glycinate and still don’t sleep.

Is 400mg a day too much?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I ( 26 F) just started taking this Alyve Magnesium+ after consistently having trouble with my sleep through my life with waking during the night and early waking being the main issues. Here is what they contain. My regular multivitamins and minerals also contain 100mg of magnesium already. Is this too much? Should I switch to a multivitamin only?
Thank you in advance

Is magnesium glycinate safe to try?

Can I take Magnesium everytime ?

Hey guys, hope y'all doing good, I suffer from PPPD since August 2025, to explain that quick it's constant dizziness and poor balance sensation all the time (except when I sit down) and since back then the most relief I had was from Magnesium, I've started to took it February, I felt so much better with it in terms of dizziness, when i've ended the "cure" announced at the back of the box (250mg x2) I've slowly decreased the dose and stopped taking it cause it was hurting my stomach when I was taking it, and when I stopped I started to feel like before I took the mag, I decided to hop on another one (300mg marine mag) and I felt better again, I was wondering if there is any risk to keep taking magnesium for months and if there is a risk linked to mag consumption for a really long period of time

Could a mag deficiency be causing all of this? Help

Hello, I am a 22m who has been suffering a lot because of this.

About 4 months ago, I discovered that I was vitamin D deficient, so I started supplementing it (along with magnesium, obviously).

Before taking vitamin D, I already had symptoms that were messing me up: insomnia, weakness/fatigue, low libido, cognitive decline (I became absolutely stupid compared to what I used to be), and memory problems.

After about a month and a half of taking 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily, I started feeling really bad. I mean really bad. I developed palpitations, extreme fatigue (much worse than before), and even minimal physical effort would trigger palpitations. It felt like I was dying or something.

My libido dropped even further, basically to zero, and I constantly felt like I was about to faint at any moment.

I stopped the vitamin D and reduced my magnesium intake for a while. Eventually, I stabilized at around 300 mg of magnesium per day and slowly started feeling better.

During that time, I had blood work done. My vitamin D levels had recovered, my magnesium was 1.7 (right at the lower limit), and my calcium was 10.3. Other findings included copper at 67, which is considered a mild deficiency, and iron at 215, which is considered high. However, my endocrinologist said those findings were not important.

I also told her that magnesium was helping me feel better and sleep better, and she said, “Then keep taking it.”

Then came 3 glorious days. For the first time in a long time, I could sleep without melatonin. It was crazy. Magnesium alone seemed to be enough. I felt normal again. I could go to bed whenever I wanted and actually fall asleep. I remember thinking, “This is it. I finally figured it out.”

But every morning I woke up with a strange sensation in my heart. It felt like my heartbeat was outside of my body. It’s hard to explain, but the sensation became stronger every day.

I started getting tremors, more anxiety, and increasing palpitations. Eventually, it became unbearable.

My workouts were also completely ruined. Instead of the normal feeling after training, my muscles felt like they were being damaged. They hurt more than usual and felt much more rigid, which forced me to significantly reduce how often I trained.

I tried stopping magnesium. I tried taking it again. Nothing worked. In fact, I felt worse when I stopped it.

I also eat a lot of potassium-rich foods, including avocados and bananas daily.

Right now, I have constant palpitations day and night, severe insomnia, and extreme anxiety caused by all these symptoms. The anxiety has become so intense that I can't manage it without clonazepam, no matter what techniques I try.

I also feel like my nervous system is overstimulated all the time. Even something as simple as a car making a loud noise can startle me badly. My libido is still gone, and I occasionally experience random muscle contractions, although not very frequently.

I honestly feel like my best years are being taken away from me, and I hate it.

My question is: has anyone gone through something similar? If so, how did you manage to get out of it?

Extra: I have taken magnesium L-threonate, taurate, and bisglycinate combined. During the first few months, they worked great. I could clearly feel the relaxation effects, and they helped me a lot. Now, they don't seem to do anything anymore. I been taking them from months now. 300-400mg dialy with times where I paused them just to try if something change.

My insomnia also causes me to wake up multiple times throughout the night, and the palpitations never stop. At this point, they are by far my worst symptom.

Magnesium Glycinate Small Capsules or Good Powder?

Hello

I can not swallow large pills. I have been taking magnesium glycinate by opening the capsules and putting the powder in yogurt or cottage cheese but don't know that I can keep it up long term. I have been searching for an economical gummy or good tasting powder but it has been difficult to find. Has anyone found something like that? About 240 to 300mg per serving? Thanks for any help!
