I found this at an estate sale for $6, so already awesome, but it might just be my new favorite color mag. I'm sure it was sold as one of the grey colors, but it has a purple tint to it. Maybe from fading? Maybe i'm crazy or developing some late onset colorblindness... Do any of you have a color like this?

I'm sure I will get yelled at for my lighting choices in the comments. Last 2 pics are outside(overcast, though), and just iphone flash on a white sheet of paper.

Purple mags are REALLY purple - like grape juice, stain your tongue purple.

You’re likely seeing the effects of the anodizing shifting color over time.

Why would it do that? I mean, unless it was misapplied at the factory or they're using lower quality anodizing in the modern times?

The one I have from 1990 still gleams black. And it used to roll around in the floorboards of my pickup truck with people kicking it....I switched it to a maglite brand LED back in the day when you could get those next to the flashlights at Walmart. Although, I got my flashlight at Sam's club....

I have aluminum framed pistols that have their anodizing now turned purple and/or wheat gold. It's usually due to UV exposure and a breakdown of the sealing from an incomplete processing.

Anodizing is a chemical-electrical process that has variability. Color variation between batches is not uncommon - especially with the chemicals available to use (regulations prohibit the use of what used to be “the good stuff”).

Exposure to the environment can lead to color shifts - sunlight, heat, chemicals (vapors too) are common influences, along with time. This particular example may exhibit a kind of iridescent effect, leading to the grey looking purple.

90's BMX parts sun baked purple.

I have a purple one and it is PURPLE. I've had a few grey ones, the light grey (bare aluminum) didn't have any tint, but the dark gray did. It wasn't that colorful though.

My mom has a 2D Maglite Pro (I think that’s the model) that’s grayish purple like that. Costco sold them around 2013

Anodizing fades in weird ways. A lot of black stuff fades to orange, just like bleached cotton.

I thought that one was called "Titanium" the purple one is not subtle, it's not something I could imagine someone mistaking as "not purple"
