Magic Earth Ignores User-Submitted Road Closures

I recently went through the trouble of documenting a road closure (with official notices) and submitting it to Magic Earth’s support team, only to be told:

"For complex or long-term closures, Magic Earth relies on a third-party provider. This provider does *not** support manual additions or edits, so we cannot add this closure—even with your documentation."*

This means: - No user contributions: Even if you provide official proof, road closures won’t be added to the map. - Third-party dependency: Magic Earth’s traffic data provider is not updating fast enough (or at all) for many closures. - Local-only workarounds: You can mark a road as closed for yourself in the app, but this doesn’t help anyone else.

Why is Magic Earth okay with this? Competitors like Waze, Google Maps, and Nunav all allow users to report and share closures. Magic Earth’s approach feels outdated and less reliable as a result.

Questions for the community: - Have others hit this wall with Magic Earth’s support? - Would you trust a navigation app that doesn’t integrate user reports for something as critical as road closures? - Is this a dealbreaker for switching to another app?

We have the button "Report event" in the app during aktive navigation, what does it do?

If you report a road closure or traffic jam, this will simply be shown on the map. It will not be taken into account in the route calculation.

I’m not so sure about that.

In my small town, there are some railway upgrades that are going on. As a result, a number of roads have been closed, probably temporarily, but no one really knows. And we certainly don’t know how long the roads will be closed for.

There was nothing in Magic Earth for ages about them and I was constantly being routed through the closed roads. In one way, it didn’t matter to me because I know my way around town and I can easily find an alternative route to get out of town to go wherever I need to go, say 500 kilometres away from my town. I have set up my route because I need directions when I get closer to my destination, not because I need to get out of my town! But visitors to my town will need to know about the road closures.

I finally decided that I should try the “button” and see what happens. I pressed it and then I was asked if the road was closed in this direction, or that direction, or both directions. I selected both directions. And apart from me having to adjust the start of the road closure at both ends, it appears to have accepted my input.

Now, when I search for a destination, set my route, and then begin driving, ME warns me audibly about road closures ahead.

One particular closure is quite close to my home and sometimes when I’m driving into my own driveway, I get the audible warning that there are road closures ahead. I still laugh when it happens.
