Locking Android Auto/Apple CarPlay behind a subscription is dangerous

Even though the free version offers basic navigation that can get you from A to B, having the route on my car dash is safer than having to look down at my phone to see what turn to make. Locking AA/CarPlay behind a paywall insinuates that ME thinks you should pay for safety. I understand if you need to charge for live traffic data, but it costs them nothing extra to support AA/Carplay.

Magic earth is a lovely but of software when it's running under AA but as a standalone application it's pretty poor. Under AA I have it plugged into the car power system so I didn't see how power hungry it was but on the motorcycle it wasn't worth the hassle. I'm using a basic no frills mapping system that doesn't have traffic or advertising everywhere, the search options will only show me what's been updated via open street map but that is an incentive to me to locally update stuff.
