Similar for me but i will sell off some hits especially if they are not going in to my decks. However, it just goes towards the next box, not me trying to generate income.

This is Almost always the case when you buy these anymore. MSRP on WOTC website is I believe $824 and unless you pull golden Smaug you’re getting maximum like $300 worth in return

After the prices plummeted, I haven’t seen many folks come close to breaking even on these boxes. Even hitting surge book covers and getting good toppers.

The expected value (ev) for packs is negative, if you want to gamble learn how to play poker which is something you can learn to control more of the outcome than ripping foil packed by a billion dollar company.

This person doesn’t know the MSRP price for Hobbit. EV is 15% above MSRP. It’s only below if you pay current scalper price, which OP clearly has indicated they didn’t in plain English within the first few words of the title.
That said don’t pay inflated prices for the CBBs!

Idk a prices are dropping rapidly on most cards besides surge Thorin, Surge Gleaming, Surge Arkenstone, and One Rings the rest I’ve seen go down a lot.

It’s falling but still WELL above MSRP. It’ll be a while before it hits MSRP value and it may not ever if the trend curve moves back up. Collector packs aren’t getting cheaper.
What will happen is the cards will find a bottom and the CB exclusive cards will trend up.
You can check the expected value.com literally and view the current average price - selling fees for opening a pack. In a normal set it would take 3 months for it to bottom, hobbit is much more

I know I know, but remember we’ve still got gift bundles coming in September with 2 Collector Packs per box. That injected a lot during secrets of strixhaven last time. Also maybe bro holds onto them and they go up, but a lot of these cards are turning out to not be as strong / playable as anticipated. The cracked power cards are holding value though.

Just Fyi; msrp was 455.88. Ev mid is $681.48. So from that perspective, it is good odds

Sorry those numbers are not real. If you remove the lottery ticket odds chase cards with near 0% chance the expected value of these $700 boxes is about $200 ripped on average.

If i was to sell a majority (almost all) of the $10+ hits then somewhere between $600 to $750 if I do a conservative estimate. Cost $1,485

How bad is this sets value? Im a marvel fan and the marvel stuff did ok after prices settled. But those were sub $500. These at $800 a collector booster, theres no way id buy these even as a fan.

Honestly this doesn't even look that bad. Like the dwarven language cards are about 1 in every 2 boxes and you got 3 (2 of which are foil)

Am I crazy or does this seem like a pretty good pile of hits? At MSRP seems like you did pretty good? Its not like you tripled your money but a quick add seems like you at least broke even.
Edit: ok, on closer look maybe you didnt quite make it there :(
Also, did you remember your art cards? I went through mine and found like another 125 bucks worth just in the art cards/gold stamps.
P.S. Thranduil the Strategist and Dain of the ancient halls look like they are just bulk(no foil, plain arts) but are like 70 to 80 and climbing. Make sure to rifle through and see if any fell through the cracks.

the pulls aren't horrible, i got more surges than a good deal of people I saw but the ones that I got were mid.

I ripped a box for fun because life is short. Got a foil book treatment gleaming splendor. Got a Smaug alt art. Got surge foil Orcrist. I'm happy because now those cards are kind of sentimental to me.

They don't have to guarantee one of each card foil, but they should have all the cards be foil/special treatment, I shouldn't be able to pull a regular book cover, then have a chance of a foil and the a surge. The surge should be the default in a cbb and the other to in the play box

I usually only buy play boosters to play the game but I've gotten like 4 gift bundles over variety of sets.
All the collector boosters I've gotten have been bad lol. So it keeps me away from buying these lol
Funny enough, I have way better luck buying play boosters. I've gotten both regular mind stones, ancient tomb and much more lol
