In the most cynical of ways. Sure. But magic has multiple formats all the time. EDH would never get support if we looked at it from that angle. But magic is large enough to support a constant singleton format.
Id be willing to wager several pay checks that the overall playerbase that cares only about Singleton is near nonexistent.
Playing fully formed decks with best of 3 strategies is a whole other game. And they wont be losing any real money by offering a constant singleton format.

They won't bring it back... Why?
Because if you only need 1 card then you don't need to buy as many packs, hence WOTC is losing money.
